About the Role:




We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable

Cost Controller

to join our finance team in Quebec. The successful candidate will play a key role in tracking, analyzing, and controlling costs associated with business operations or projects. maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with month-end reporting. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of accounting principles and a passion for cost analysis and efficiency. The Cost Controller will be responsible mainly for P&L performance.

Job Summary:


The Cost Controller is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and controlling costs associated with business operations or projects. This role is responsible for P&L performance and that includes:

Transactional Finance (AR, AP, GL) Budget and Forecast Cost Control and Analysis Cost Evaluation and Procurement Assistance Variance Analysis Other related tasks


This role ensures effective cost management by maintaining accurate financial data and collaborating with various departments to ensure budgets are adhered to and cost-saving measures are identified.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition. Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Monitor project and operational budgets, forecasts, and expenditures. Track and analyze actual costs vs. budget and report on variances. Prepare cost reports for internal and external stakeholders. Support procurement and planning departments with cost data and analysis. Work closely with project managers to update project cost estimates and financial models. Develop and implement cost control procedures and reporting systems. Assist in the preparation of tender and contract cost evaluations. Identify and analyze areas of potential cost reduction and recommend solutions. Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies. Assist in the preparation of financial statements (e.g. income statement, balance sheet, cash flow). Assist in month-end and year-end close processes. Provide financial analysis to support decision-making. Support in the Implementation of a new ERP

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field 3-5+ years of relevant experience in an accounting role Professional Designations CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Multiple years (frequently 3-5+) of practical experience in cost accounting / cost control. Experience in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, tracking cost to actuals, cost of goods sold (COGS), etc. Strong knowledge of accounting and cost control principles Ability to produce cost reports, analyze variances, model scenarios, and forecast. Analytical thinking and ability to interpret data. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Acomba, or similar) Familiarity with ERP systems or cost control software / tools Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools Familiarity with Quebec and Canadian tax regulations High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Strong organizational and analytical skills Excellent communication skills in French; English is an asset
