Job Summary


The Cost Analyst will support the Finance team by conducting detailed cost analysis and contributing to accurate financial reporting, inventory costing, and margin improvement initiatives. This role is critical in ensuring full-cycle accounting is completed in accordance with company procedures and reporting deadlines. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a hands-on approach to problem solving, and the ability to work closely with operations and procurement to ensure cost accuracy and inventory integrity.

Duties & Responsibilities:



Costing & Margin Analysis



Maintain and update product costing models, including standard costs, BOM reviews, and generate new product costing. Analyze production variances including yield, waste, labor, and overhead to support cost optimization and margin improvement. Prepare and analyze transfer pricing and margin reports each period. Collaborate with operations to evaluate cost drivers and improve manufacturing efficiency. Support pricing decisions by evaluating cost impacts of recipe or production changes.

Inventory Costing & Control



Ensure accurate month-end valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods through inventory reconciliation. Track and analyze inventory movements; support cycle counts and physical inventory with financial validation. Investigate and report on inventory variances, product loss, rework, and scrap affecting cost integrity. Monitor cost trends in ingredients and packaging materials and communicate volatility risks to management.

Labor & Efficiency Monitoring



Analyze direct labor costs and efficiency against production output to identify inefficiencies. Track overtime and idle time trends, working with operations to improve labor utilization and scheduling.

Financial Accounting & Reporting



Complete month-end closing activities including preparation and posting of journal entries. Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts with appropriate backup, for Controller's review and consolidation reporting. Assist in preparing cost-focused components of the annual operating budget and financial forecasts.

Capital & Project Cost Analysis



Evaluate cost implications and ROI for capital projects or equipment investments. Monitor actual vs. projected costs for initiatives affecting production or cost structure.

Administrative & Other Duties



Maintain well-organized financial records, reports, and reconciliations. Assist in audits and compliance reporting. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications & Skills



1. University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

2. CPA designation is preferred; candidates actively pursuing CPA will also be considered.

3. Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing or food processing environment.

4. Strong knowledge of cost accounting, financial analysis, and full-cycle accounting.

5. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP or inventory systems is an asset.

6. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments.

8. Proven ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
