In this role, you will apply a variety of building and mechanical trade skills to plan, organize and direct inspection, maintenance and repair programs. You will ensure satisfactory operation of a large complement of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, heating and ventilation equipment.Qualifications and ExperienceYou possess a Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent), a Nova Scotia Journeyman Provincial Certificate and at least 2 years\' experience as a Journeyman in one of the following trades: Plumber, Construction or Industrial Electrician, Steam Fitter/Welder. Consideration may be given to 5 years experience working as a building operator with experience in plumbing, electrical, steam fitting, boilers or construction. Experience is required in operating a variety of power tools and machinery.To be considered for this position, you will have a good working knowledge of current construction safety regulations and practices, be able to read and interpret specifications and drawings and complete work on schedule with a minimum of supervision. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a basic knowledge of correctional and security procedures.Training in the following will be considered an asset: computer applications, WHMIS, Scaffolding Safety, Fall Protection, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Confined Space Awareness. Previous experience working in a secure environment would be a definite asset as the incumbent may supervise offenders.During the interview, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills to complete tasks on time.
