Vaughan is your place to grow.Position OverviewResponsible for providing security services for the City of Vaughan, including but not limited to the protection and safety of people and the safeguarding of facility assets. This position will follow and enforce Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass to Property Act and City of Vaughan Policies and procedures, while maintaining confidentiality, exercising discretion, and ensuring a high level of quality and integrity.Primarily located at the Security Desk and/or Security Office in City Hall, this position assists with maintaining security functions and the day-to-day operation of the Security Desk. Secondary roles may include being posted at other City of Vaughan facilities to perform security functions.ResponsibilitiesSecurity Functions:

  • Performs patrols of the facility. Ensures facilities are safe and secure and reports any
issues to Security Coordinator and Supervisor.
  • Processes visitor and contractor sign in. Greets, informs and provides security escorts for
employees, visitors, and contractors, as needed.
  • Issues keys and access cards to contractors and visitors. Audits Key Cabinet daily.
  • Responds to security issues, incidents, fire alarms, First Aid calls and assists in evacuation
procedures. Performs emergency First Aid services to the public and staff, as necessary;
escorts designated authorities, police, fire and paramedic personnel to emergency
locations.
  • Follows and enforces the Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass to Property Act to
manage unauthorized acts at City of Vaughan facilities with discretion, including exercising
the powers of arrest and detention as required.
  • Assists the Security Coordinator in responding and resolving security concerns and
complaints in a timely manner and recommends and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Provides security for visiting dignitaries, protocol functions, demonstrations, labour
disruptions, council meetings and special events.
  • Assists team members in dealing with volatile situations, assists/participates in training
needs as required.
  • Provides support and guidance to contracted Security Guards at Vaughan City Hall and the
Joint Operations Centre.
  • Provides support to Service Vaughan and other departments, as required.
  • Maintains daily log logbooks and complete daily shift reports. Prepares clear, concise and
legible notebook entries and detailed security incident reports.Security Systems
  • Operates and monitors computerized security software including access control systems,
CCTV Systems, Key management, intrusion alarm systems and duress response systems.
  • Assists with and completes CCTV video reviews and video downloads.
  • Audits and runs reports on Access Control systems.
  • Monitors all Security systems throughout shift to ensure systems are functioning properly
and advises Management of any issues.
  • Reviews and processes the Visitor Management Software entries.
Other Duties
  • Assists the Coordinator and Supervisor, Corporate Security in investigations as required.
  • Assists with drills for emergency preparedness and response.
  • Performs other related tasks and projects as assigned, which are in accordance with job
responsibilities or necessary department and corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and
Regulations and the Corporate Health & Safety policy and related procedures.Qualifications and Experience
  • Successful completed of a two (2) year College Diploma in security or law enforcement or
suitable equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years\' related experience in security and life safety is required.
  • Maintain a Valid Ontario issued Security Guard License
  • Maintain a Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver\'s License
  • Maintain a Standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification
  • Knowledge of current related security industry practices is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow the City\'s Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and
Procedures, building Fire Safety Plans and Emergency Response Plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret Federal and Provincial legislation: Criminal Code; Trespass to
Property Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act; Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
  • Efficiently uses computers and has experience using Microsoft Office related software,
incident reporting software, access control software and CCTV software.
  • Knowledge of Kantech Entrapass is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of exacqVison is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of KeyWatcher Touch, Simple K and WhosOnLocation is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and enforce safety/ security regulations.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, interpersonal, and public relations skills,
coupled with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary in
addition to a professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
  • APP, CPP, PSP or CPTED certification is an asset.
