Job Description

The successful candidates shall have the following qualifications:


Minimum seven (7) years' experience in a safety-related role. Safety experience within the contracting/construction industry is preferred Minimum five (5) years in a managerial role Valid Class 5 Driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is required National Construction Safety Officer ("NCSO") and/or CRSP, CHSC designation is an asset Post-secondary education in safety management is an asset COR or ISO audit training is highly beneficial Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial and local safety and environmental laws and regulations Proven ability to manage a team of employees Advanced in business-based computer programs including full Microsoft Office Suite Ability to collaborate with internal business partners, senior management and regulatory agencies Ability to build, maintain and leverage strong working relationships at all levels Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult situations with tact, professionalism and creativity Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training programs Proven ability to deliver training to large groups Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion with minimal supervision Ability to be flexible and adapt to sudden changes in work demands Ability to travel to different Mainroad Group locations

Job duties include, but not limited to, the following:




Oversee the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of Mainroad's HSQE Management System, including ISO45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001:2015. Review and/or develop site specific safety plans, programs, practices and rules that align with Mainroad's 2030 HSQE Strategy, OHS legislation, and ISO requirements. Promote a "Safety Always" culture based on "Safety Excellence" and "Trust". Support consistent implementation of the 2030 HSQE Strategy across all Operating Companies. Provide guidance and support to managers, supervisors, and employees to ensure full understanding and compliance with HSQE policies and procedures Interview, select and onboard HSE department personnel, as required. Manage, mentor and develop a team of Safety Advisors (4+) to promote and provide consistent support and expertise. Coordinate, review and/or conduct annual COR (Certificate of Recognition) internal safety audits. Participate in internal, external audits and regulatory inspections. Oversee the effective implementation and verification of corrective actions from audits, inspections and investigations. Oversee the implementation of the company subcontractor management program. Review or lead incident investigations, utilizing root cause analysis and recommending clearly defined corrective/ preventative actions that engage all levels of personnel. Leading and/or assisting in effective handling of critical safety situations, including monitoring, analyzing, reporting, and recommending corrective/preventative measures Oversee the administration of the Injury Management Program including coordination of return-to-work with modified duties. Oversee the scheduling, organization, and implementation of safety training, including annual Training Days. Oversee the development and distribution of Safety Alerts, Weekly Toolbox Topics, and Near Miss Reviews. Oversee the performance of multiple company monthly EOSH Committee meetings. Maintain and report on monthly, quarterly, and annual safety statistics, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Develop and oversee Operating Company action plans with Safety Advisors based on HSQE statistical trends and needs. Conduct field inspections and Safety Tour visits to engage with crews, observe work practices, and verify compliance with HSQE expectations. Support hazard assessments, safe work planning, and risk mitigation activities. Provide coaching and feedback to improve field-level safety performance. Liaise with WorkSafeBC, environmental agencies, and other regulators as required. Ensure all corporate HSE documentation, submissions and records meet regulatory and audit requirements.
