The Financial Services Division of Service Nova Scotia provides corporate financial support through four key teams: Payroll Services, Operational Accounting, Performance Excellence, and Collection Services. Within this division, Payroll Services provides service to the Province\'s departments, agencies, and other government units, as well as the retirees of three government pension plans. Within Payroll Services, the Payroll Accounting & Tax Compliance team provides centralized and integrated support and services in the areas of payroll payment production, tax compliance, SAP systems integration, maintenance and support, and fiscal and taxation year-end reporting for the Province and related government entities.

About Our Opportunity

As the Corporate Payroll Analyst, you will be responsible for the execution of specialized business processes associated with the payroll operations of the Province of Nova Scotia, which includes a payroll client base of approximately 14,000 provincial government employees, 18,000 employees of the Regional Centres for Education/CSAP, and 33,000 retirees of the Public Service Superannuation Plan, the Teachers\' Pension Plan, and the Members Retiring Allowance Plan.

You will provide business systems analysis and support and implement system configuration changes/upgrades to ensure all business processes and practices are compliant with corporate (Province of Nova Scotia) policies, applicable Collective Agreements, and provincial and federal payroll legislation.

You are also responsible for the integrity of all financial and third-party postings that originate from the SAP HR/Payroll system and the monitoring and reconciliation of all payroll-related GL accounts contributing to the accurate and timely recording of payroll data and information in the Corporate Financial Management System (SAP).The Analyst is also responsible for the production and filing of 80,000+ tax slips annually and related adjustments (amendments) throughout the year.

Qualifications and Experience

Three (3) years post-secondary professional accounting training plus five (5) years related experience in financial administration or an acceptable equivalent of education, training, and experience. A post-secondary degree in accounting (BBA/BComm) would be an asset.

Knowledge of payroll production and the HR/Payroll system is imperative to facilitate completion of the required duties and problem solving on behalf of clients. Payroll processing and tax compliance is a specialized area of work that requires a solid understanding of the SAP system to recognize the interdependencies of the SAP HR/Payroll module and other parts of the system. Additionally, the Corporate Payroll Analyst must keep abreast of ever-changing provincial and federal tax legislation as it relates to the processing and reporting of payroll data/results.

Salary Range: $2,178.43 - $2,561.85 Bi-Weekly
