The W Group of Companies is a dynamic organization encompassing three companies; a real estate agency, a property management firm, and an asset development company specializing in real estate and business.
This position is with a set of small but quickly growing independent companies in the exciting real-estate industry. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Corporate Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of all three companies. This role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a multi-faceted and fast paced environment and can balance corporate strategy with hands-on financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
Real Estate Development & Property Management (Corporate Finance & Strategy)
• Lead financial planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives to support growth.
• Provide insights on cash flow, risk management, and financial efficiencies.
• Collaborate with the COO on business development and intercompany processes.
• Manage corporate bookkeeping, financial reporting, and forecasting.
• Conduct payroll, benefits, and financial compliance.
Real Estate Agency (Trust Accounting & Transactions)
• Manage trust accounts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the processing of commissions, issuing and receiving payments from law firms.
• Handle tax preparation and general bookkeeping for the real estate division.
Property Management (Accounting Leadership & Operations)
• Supervise a team of accountants and oversee the accounting department.
• Ensure accurate reporting, cash flow management, and financial best practices.
• Work closely with the COO to enhance financial processes across departments
Property Management (Client Portfolio)
• Directly manage a portfolio of clients.
• Accounts Receivable- Collect fees from owners, tenants, or on behalf of the property along with following up on unpaid fees. Prepare deposits and set up various fees payable.
• Accounts Payable- Prepare payments and respond to vendor queries.
• Financial Statement Creation- Maintain financial accounting records, prepare and review monthly financial statements
• Other Duties- Respond to inquiries from owners, tenants, auditors, and investors. Work with the property management team to deliver our full customer service commitments.
Qualifications:
• CPA designation (asset but not required).
• University degree with accounting major and subsequent strong bookkeeping experience will be considered
• Minimum of 5 years experience in accounting/financial roles.
• Minimum of 2 years in leadership/team management roles (asset but not required).
Skills:
• Ideally the candidate will have knowledge of:
• corporate real estate accounting
• trust accounting
• property management or non-profit accounting
• Experience in process and systems improvement and implementation
• Personable and pleasant demeanor.
• Strong communication with excellent English language oral and written skills.
• Computer proficiency with experience on the Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
• Quick Books Online and Yardi Voyager experience ( asset but not required).
Compensation:
• Salary position based on skills and experience ranging from $75,000 - $90,000 per year.
• Position includes 3 weeks paid vacation.
• Corporate Policies currently include 7.5 hour work days with office hours from 8:00am to 4:30pm and a 1 hour lunch. Early office closure every Friday at 3:00pm. Flexible work hours may be considered.
