Job Description

In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in overseeing our financial operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making as we continue to grow and innovate.

Position Overview



The Corporate Controller will oversee all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in a fast-paced fuel and lubrication distribution, and transportation environment. This role requires strong leadership, financial expertise, and industry-specific knowledge to support business growth and operational excellence. The Controller must have strong time management skills to ensure all daily responsibilities are completed, high attention to detail for administrative duties, and problem-solving abilities to assist outlying sites with their day-to-day operations. Additionally, the Controller will manage Accounts Payable and Receivable clerks and other general administrators (if applicable), ensuring smooth financial transactions and compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities



Under the supervision of the CEO, the duties and responsibilities of the Controller include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management: Monitor and understand cash position, financial and KPI reporting, assess financial risks, and work with senior leadership to implement strategies that mitigate risk and enhance profitability. Accounting Oversight: Month-end processing, bank reconciliations, expense reallocation, and establish Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance for Federal carbon tax exemption verification, dyed fuel number verification, and GST calculations. Risk Management: Employee credit cards and track monthly accruals. Operational Support: Oversee and analyze truck expenses, inventory revaluation, and generation of month-end invoices/statements. Technology & Systems: Organization and structure of D365 accounting system maintaining continuity and asset listings. Vendor & Customer Relations: Oversee customer adjustments, credit applications for new suppliers, and Equifax credit checks. Year-End & Reporting: Prepare documents for year-end, inventory declaration, Asset continuity, and monthly financial reports. Work with external Accountants and auditors. Cost Analysis & Reporting: Accumulate, audit, and correlate information to produce required cost reports and KPI's that present an interpretive analysis as requested by the leadership. Strategic Meetings: Attend and participate in Suncor Business planning, operational review, budget, and forecasting meetings. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management: Oversee clerks handling invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and reconciliation of accounts. Management & Oversight: Provide oversight of work and mentorship of junior accounting staff to develop skills. Process Improvement: Take initiative to identify and suggest improvements to job-related processes, workflows, and procedures.

Bonus Structure



Bonus metrics may include financial reporting accuracy, system improvements, cash flow optimization, and leadership effectiveness.

Schedule



Work from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with a 30-minute to 1-hour lunch break.

Minimum Requirements



Accounting Certificate Required - CPA Preferred Strong problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and quality of work. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access). Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks. Experience with customer service is preferred. Able to communicate effectively (both written and verbal). Accountable and dependable with a strong work ethic.

Key Relationships



Reporting to: CEO Responsible for managing: Accounts Payable & Receivable Clerks, Payroll and benefits specialist, and general administrators External Reporting to: Clients and customers.

Working Conditions



Work in a busy, open office area with constant interruptions. Able to work on a computer for long periods of time. Comfortable answering phones and providing consistent customer service. May spend long hours in intense concentration requiring attention to detail and accuracy. Required to meet multiple deadlines.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $90,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
