Under the supervision of the Public Affairs Manager, provides corporate communications, government relations and issues management support which contributes to the overall objectives of the Niagara Parks Commission and the Niagara Parks Foundation. In fulfilling this role, you will help create corporate communications, government relations and issues management plans; provide government liaison support on key reporting documents such as the annual report and three-year business plan; prepare a variety of corporate communications products including media releases, newsletters, key messages, speeches and presentation materials with a focus on supporting and positioning Niagara Parks? mandate and role as a demand generator for tourism in the region.
Niagara Parks offers an an hourly rate of $27.21 - $33.45 ($51,290.85- $63,053.25 annualized) as well as a comprehensive benefit and pension plan.Applications for this position will be accepted until May 17, 2023.QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures; proficient in computer applications software (including Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress) spreadsheet and word processing applications
Familiar with Microsoft office capabilities (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and CRM systems)
Knowledge of various social media platforms (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, blogs), as well as a strong understanding of the Canadian Press (CP) Style Guide, is considered an asset
Bilingualism would be considered an asset
Three years of relevant work experience in progressively more responsible positions, with previous tourism/hospitality and or government related background preferred;
Experience in the use of new media and video platforms within an internal/corporate communication environment would be considered an asset
A motivated and well organized individual with the ability to manage and execute multiple tasks
Superior written and verbal communications skills, as well as excellent editing skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with both internal and external customers in a professional manner.
Focused, flexible, results oriented and able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision or as a part of the team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates and/or participates in the development and implementation of corporate communications, government relations and issues management plans for Niagara Parks, the Board of Commissioners and the Niagara Parks Foundation.
Researches, writes and edits corporate communications pieces including Niagara Parks corporate news releases, brochures, ads, staff presentation materials, speeches, web and social media content, backgrounders, fact sheets and key messages, for a variety of audiences from corporate to consumer-facing.
Assists in the development and preparation of required key Government/Ministry reporting documents, such as the 3-year business plan, annual report, grant submissions, Commission reports, and Ministry communications reports.
In collaboration with other team members within Communication and Marketing, takes part in the development of e-newsletters for a variety of audiences by researching article topics, writing copy, selecting photo and video assets, coordinating required approvals and final distribution.
Coordinates with staff across the organization in the planning and execution of VIP visits, government announcements and other special events.
Displays professionalism, tact and decorum.
Analyzes effectiveness of communications strategies, reports on results and provides recommendations to optimize coverage and message distribution.
Respects and complies with all policies and procedures.
Provides a wide range of clerical/support services as required by staff in Communications and Marketing.
Maintains accurate files, databases and key media and stakeholder contact lists, on an on-going basis.
Able to brief Public Affairs Manager and other staff on issues and propose problem-solving strategies as required.
Able to compose correspondence, handle customer mail-outs, meet deadlines and objectives.
Liaises with media and facilitates media opportunities for Niagara Parks? Board Chair, Executive Team or other designated spokesperson both administratively and on-site as required.
Regular daily tracking of and reporting on media coverage, online research of social and news media, in addition to targeted tracking related to specific topics of interest.
Flexible and willing to work variable hours, evenings or weekends as required.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Must be willing and able to work variable shifts as required and schedule to fulfill the requirements of the seven-day operations.
