Taylor McCaffrey is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team. As one of Manitoba's largest law firms, this is a great opportunity to join a thriving law firm and industry leader.

This position will be responsible for providing legal assistance support to a senior partner and an associate in the areas of corporate and commercial law, real estate, and will and estates.

Duties and Responsibilities



Independently manage and organize the daily operation of a busy corporate and commercial, real estate, and wills and estates practice.

1. Practice area duties:

o Ability to administer sale, purchase and financing of commercial and residential real estate matters from start to finish

o Ability to conduct real estate and commercial due diligence searches, company searches, LTO and PPR searches

o Order documents from LTO and PPR

o Prepare, draft, edit and finalize closing agendas and all transactional documents relating to corporate, lending and real estate transactions

o Prepare, register, and report on sales, purchases and mortgages

o Perform payout/interest calculations and prepare statements

o Ability to take instructions and assist in the drafting of wills, powers of attorney and health care directives

o Knowledge of estate administration files and ability to file estate documents with the Court of King's Bench and LTO, as applicable


2. Administrative duties including:

o Dictation - letters, email and court documents

o Administer accounting transactions, opening and closing files, billing, expenses etc.

o Prepare invoices; general and trust deposits of cheques

o Organize and manage files

o Monitor phone calls and sort incoming mail

o Produce and finish reporting letters

o Coordinate meetings, doodle calendar


3. Other:

o Ability to prepare reports to clients, generally

o Drafting legal documents with instructions provided by lawyer

o Other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time

Competencies:



1. Must be customer service driven

2. Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team

3. Handle a demanding workload and respond to changing priorities as needs arise

4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients external to the firm

5. Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills

6. Strong computer skills

7. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and implement projects in a timely manner

8. French - oral and written skills are an asset

Other:



Full Time, 7 hours/day, 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday
