Corporate Accounting Specialist

Working under the direction of the Corporate Accounting Manager, the Corporate Accounting Specialist provides analysis on variance to budget and forecast for elevator/terminal industrial costs and volumes. This role facilitates analysis that identifies key drivers of results and provide insights into trends that directly impact operational results. This role is responsible for preparing management reporting for operational results based on various KPI's and metrics, as well as performing month-end duties. This role also supports preparation of year-end financial statement disclosures and works closely with external auditors. The Accounting Specialist also assists in the development of process and system initiatives, providing insight into the financial impacts and internal controls.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Prepares, analyzes and interprets monthly industrial operations results for elevator/terminals and discusses with Facility General Managers and Regional Managers to understand any variance to budget/forecast Provides profit and loss variance analysis and volume reporting for elevators/terminals, identifying key performance drivers and trends that impact operational results Works closely with VP of Operations and Regional Managers to understand business needs and develop dashboards and reports that deliver relevant insights Identifies areas for system optimization to gain efficiencies in the role and assists with implementing process improvements on a continual basis Participates in annual budgeting and monthly rolling forecasting processes, working with the business to ensure reporting is timely and accurate, while analyzing key drivers of business performance Identifies opportunities to improve the forecasting of key cost drivers and recommends process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy Identifies and implements system optimizations and process improvements to streamline recurring tasks and enhance reporting capabilities Prepares quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and monthly journal entries for review, including rolling forward quarterly reconciliations and financial statement note schedules Analyze and report on the financial impact and related internal controls associated with the key strategic initiatives Supports the FP&A team and Corporate Accounting Manager with the development and maintenance of dashboards that provide stakeholders with visibility into key performance metrics Assists in preparation of monthly financial statements and reports for consolidated statements Assists in preparation of year-end financial statements, note disclosures and required working papers for external auditors Monitors compliance with accounting standards and maintains current knowledge of IFRS and assists with implementing new standards by participating in discussions with affected finance personnel and develops a plan of action which includes document policies and procedures for management and auditor approval Assist Manger, Financial Control with preparation of sustainability reporting Performs other ad-hoc project related duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



Highly detail oriented with effective communication and time management skills 3+ years' experience in a financial analysis or equivalent role Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance and CPA designated Strong SAP experience and general grain industry knowledge considered an asset Advanced Excel and analytical reporting PowerBI experience considered an asset Ability to work independently and problem-solve in a confidential environment
