Reporting to the Senior Manager, Core Engineering – Core Voice Squad, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing 3rd level support for the Wireless Core Voice Network. The supported network functions would be the MSS, TAS, MGW, and STP.
Job Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Act as technical Subject Matter Expert for Core Voice Network technologies, providing support to various internal Bell teams.
  • Act as the escalation point towards various Wireless Network vendors to investigate, expedite, and resolve network issues and business-impacting problems.
  • Project Management of software rollout into Production network with assistance of Operation teams. This include lab testing, verification, MOP creation, deployment schedule managing, and deployment coordination.
  • Analyze, plan and deploy capacity-related augmentations. Track resource utilization and develop capital budget for required expansions.
  • Documentation of best practices and recommended Network Operations & Maintenance procedures for Operation Teams.
  • Priming root cause analysis and following up on problems with other teams and/or vendor.
  • Using lab to reproduce/understand production issues/problems to collect additional logs for vendor investigations and find/validate any suitable workaround or corrections.
  • Participate, as Core Voice Network SME, in ad-hoc Special Projects with Wireless Technology and Engineering teams for network integrations and launch of new services.
  • Coordinate activities with other groups including IMS Engineering, Technology Development, Operations, and Real Estate to support Bell Mobility’s business needs.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Computer Network Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience within the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with UMTS/LTE/IMS networks with emphasis on Voice network systems and protocols (VoLTE, VoWiFi, SIP, Diameter, SS7).
  • High attention to detail and strong call-flow troubleshooting abilities are necessary for this role.
  • Familiarity with core network signaling (SIP, Diameter, MAP, GTP, RTP, etc) in UMTS/LTE/IMS networks is a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental IP Network and routing Protocols: TCP, SCTP, UDP, OSPF, BGP.
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written), time management and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows, UNIX, Linux and network management tools
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with a passion for results, process improvement, and challenging the status-quo.

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:
  • Familiarity with Bell Mobility’s UMTS/HSPA/LTE, IP networks and equipment.
  • Linux (RHCSA, RHCE) and Network (CCNA, JNCIS) certifications are strong assets.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP standards and technical specifications is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with automation or scripting tools (Perl, Bash, Python, Ansible), and database manipulation (SQL, mySQL) are strong assets.
  • Background in project management focusing on Agile & Scrum
  • Exposure to 5G SA/NSA core architectures, Virtualized core network functions, Openstack environments would be highly desired.
