DESCRIPTION:
This position assists the Manager, Security & Life Safety in overseeing the day-to-day functioning of Security and Life Safety operations including the overall safety and security of tenants, staff, contractors, and the public at 2 Bloor Street East and 2 Queen Street East, consisting of commercial office space, retail, restaurants, as well as parking.
This role will help ensure compliance as determined by Brookfield Properties and Government Regulations by applying Security Risk Management principles to mitigate risks, and protect assets, as well as the Brookfield brand.
This role will be primarily responsible for the emergency management at the facilities and the day-to-day oversight of the physical security (contract guard force) operations. To include but not be limited to Life Safety audits, Inspections, and reporting within each property.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain tenant relationships, meet with tenants regularly, review all tenant billing and reports
Monitor and coordinate inspection and maintenance of Life Safety & Security Systems
Obtain and manage guarding quotes as needed or requested
Process purchase orders for the contract guard force (contracted, non-contracted, and charge-back hours) and act as the initial review of related invoices for the Assistant Manager, Security & Life Safety
Oversee guard force scheduling for regular and additional hours to meet all Brookfield and tenant expectations
Oversee the regular BEAT team exercises with the assistance of the Manager
Manage guard contractor KPI reporting and act as the initial point of contact for day-to-day operations
Regularly edit and distribute reports to department managers
Prepare and coordinate Emergency Preparedness training
Prepare and coordinate Fire Warden training
Assist the Assistant Manager with investigations as required
Member of the JHSC
Other duties as assigned or required
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, & Federal laws pertaining to Life Safety, Health & Safety & Security
Perform and report on regular Life Safety audits and inspections ensuring the complex stays within expectations
Design, create and implement policy and procedures to ensure that the best safety practices are being followed
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of the department operations, policies, and procedures
Maintain policy and training documents to establish due diligence
Plan and assist with annual fire evacuation exercises. Provide training for all occupants, including tenants, staff, and contract service providers
Assist with required investigations and compilation of internal and external reports
Participate in the planning and maintenance of property operational budget and capital projects
Leadership Responsibilities:
Assist with supervision of staff in addition to indirectly supervising up to 25 contract staff
Act as back-up for the Manager, Security & Life Safety
Provide adequate training for staff to ensure duties are performed safely and effectively
Provide and/or facilitate education and training to tenants, staff, and contractors to create a safe and secure environment
Must be prepared in case of emergencies: carry cellphone and 24-hour emergency contact information
Must be available to work flexible hours, including various shifts and after hours
QUALIFICATIONS
SERVICE / PERSONAL SKILLS:
This position requires a dedicated team player with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary in addition to a professional telephone manner. Organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and presentation skills are essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities; including the ability to supervise, develop and motivate staff as required. Proven problem-solving, dispute resolution, prioritization, and decision-making skills are needed to perform successfully in the role.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:
A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in security and life safety is required
Knowledge of current security industry practices is required
Experience with security and life safety issues in a high-rise commercial office building is preferred
Experience working with budgets and budget-related processes is preferred
Experience in Emergency Management
Experience participating in a JHSC
Ability to read and interpret Federal and Provincial legislation: Criminal Code; Trespass to Property Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act; Workplace Safety & Insurance Act; Canadian & Ontario Building Code; Fire Code
Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, as well as Adobe
Knowledge of CCURE 9000 is considered an asset
Knowledge of Genetec Security Centre is considered an asset
Knowledge of Lotus Notes is considered an asset
EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES:
Post-Secondary education in security or law enforcement or related discipline is required
Post-Secondary education in Emergency Management or related discipline is an asset
Certified JHSC Member under the Occupation Health & Safety Act is considered an asset
APP, CPP, PSP or CPTED certification is an asset
