POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director, Stakeholder and Client Engagement (or designate), the Coordinator, Research and Stakeholder & Public Relations will provide strategic policy advice and broad-based (all industry) stakeholder management and support for the Sector Advisory Councils; Labour Management Network Committees and Working Group Sub-Committees, and Fleet Safety Council Regional Chapters as required. The Co-ordinator is also responsible for developing, planning, coordinating and executing incident and illness prevention initiatives by providing direct technical expertise to the parties noted as well as IHSA staff. Further, the Co-ordinator, through their technical expertise ensures IHSA product and programs technical accuracy and quality control. DATE OF POSTING: June 2, 2023 LOCATION: Remote Work RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: It is a term and condition for the granting of employment in this position and it will be a term and condition of continuing employment in this position that the individual\xe2\x80\x99s permanent residence is within eighty (80) kilometre radius of 21 Voyager Court South, Etobicoke, ON M9W 5M7. NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1 SALARY: $91,307.04\xe2\x80\x93 $107,491.16 RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with all industry sectors and related stakeholders IHSA serves and represents; ensures that ideas are broadly shared and disseminated along with the parallel development of corresponding action plans.
  • Given the broad based, multi-facetted, interconnected, client base, which is distinguished by its bi partite forum representation, consultation and negotiation skills, designed to reach consensus and strategic partnerships, are required.
  • Serve as facilitator and at times present and be facilitated, at sector stakeholder engagement forums including committees, advisory councils, and project working groups.
  • Develop and enhance strong synergies and enduring stakeholder relationships.
  • Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new sector wide volunteer safety professionals for current and subsequent placement in all forums, up to including potential Board Members.
  • Showcase the efforts and achievements of volunteer forums in advancing improved workplace health and safety to system partners; the Prevention Council; and to the critical decision makers within the relevant provincial ministries \xe2\x80\x93 Labour, Transportation and Energy.
  • Support and seek strategic direction from the VP Research and Stakeholder Networks, raising the profile of all volunteer forums to showcase the visibility and strategic relevance in all three sectors IHSA serves.
  • Lead and coordinate the association\xe2\x80\x99s research in prevention initiatives pertinent to IHSA sectors as assigned.
  • Using subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of a broad range of codes, regulations, legislation, industry best practices, review and update existing products including, but not limited to, manuals, datasheets, best practice guidelines, advisory bulletins and articles pertinent to the sectors served for both content and context.
  • Manage and develop new products, manuals, datasheets, best practice guidelines, reports, bulletins and articles based on research findings, new methods, new practices and other findings.
  • Provide technical support in the development and redevelopment of IHSA programs to ensure technical accuracy, legislative compliance and current practices.
  • Write technical changes for proposed updates to provincial/national standards and legislation; persuade industry leaders to support the changes on behalf of IHSA stakeholders and clearly articulate challenges to IHSA stakeholders as a result of other proposed changes.
  • Technically review information that is communicated within and outside IHSA to ensure technical and contextual accuracy to avoid negative impact on IHSA reputation and prevent printing/product losses.
  • In your area of expertise act as a subject matter expert and provide advice and guidance to IHSA staff, clients, stakeholders, and government organizations.
  • Actively promote best practices and accomplishments of the various forums.
  • Provide internal and external customer service to peers within the organization and schedule and coordinate activities and/or information in order to provide services and support to staff, as well as to members and strategic partners.
  • Represent the IHSA and interests of IHSA stakeholders on applicable CSA and other technical standards development committees as required on the development of national or industry-specific standards and best practice guidelines.
  • Represent IHSA on industry specific committees.
  • Participate in the development, strategic planning and goal setting process within IHSA.
  • Comply with the organization\xe2\x80\x99s vision, fundamentals, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of post-secondary education required, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • A minimum of five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working at a health and safety association, in the position/role of front line consultant, project coordinator or senior; and experience/ participation/membership with one or more associated stakeholder organizations similar to existing IHSA stakeholder body. Knowledge and familiarity within the construction or mechanical/electrical industries required.
  • Direct current affiliate with IHSA, which has a definable safety mandate, would be an asset.
  • First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certifications and WHMIS training required.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation preferred.
  • Health and Safety and/or industry related skilled trade designation, licenses and certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality products within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstration of supporting the delivery of policies, products and programs across multiple groups and/or across sectors.
  • Broad grasp of strategic and operational issues impacting IHSA and the volunteer forums.
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills coupled with a high level of professionalism.
  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to interact with all levels both internally and externally.
  • Prior management/leadership experience a definite asset.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize (i.e. seek, gather, analyze and structure information for deliberation and decision-making).
  • Experience in effectively coordinating and planning multiple projects, executing multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently while working with conflicting priorities.
  • Knowledge of administration and clerical procedures (i.e. arrange meetings, compile agendas, timely execution of minutes and action plans).
  • Advanced knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, federal and provincial legislation affecting IHSA\xe2\x80\x99s stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable provincial, national and international codes and standards.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment for a variety of hazards and develop control strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of scientific and/or engineering principles, accepted research protocol, methodology and reporting, and statistics.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office/Advanced computer and typing skills.
  • Understanding of and the ability to assist with the delivery of the Monthly Scorecard as required.
  • Collegial approach to co-workers.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Able to be flexible, adapt to change and work under pressure.
  • Valid Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License (G) Class.
  • 75% minimum interview score required for consideration.
