Positon Overview

The COE Weld Development Project Coordinator position will support the welding initiatives of the Aecon Nuclear Centre of Excellence (COE) department.

The department is responsible for three basic areas critical to welding within the company: * Developing, administering, and maintaining the welding program at a corporate level

  • Supporting new and in process project activities
  • Performing R&D, proposal work and supporting business development/proposals initiatives
Staying at the forefront of welding technology is key to ensuring that Aecon welding activities maintain the high level of quality that is required in the nuclear industry. Additionally, ensuring that Aecon leverages the latest available technologies to remain competitive in the marketplace will provide further confidence and opportunities for future business development. The welding center of excellence is a self-managed department which operates as a dedicated body within Aecon to be able to provide internal welding services to Aecon, as well as contract services to external customers.

What You\'ll Do Here
  • Oversee projects and initiatives undertaken by the welding COE department.
  • Provide support with development of detailed, resource-loaded schedules
  • Help produce project bids to setting up the complete, accurate project baseline (budget, schedule)
  • Assist with the set-up of project accounting systems (cost codes, job cost processing procedures, project rules of credit)
  • Assist in ensuring all the contract conditions (invoicing, reporting, change management, etc.) are applied and fulfilled for project set-up, project tracking and reporting, and project closeout
  • Assist in monitoring project performance and ensure that the project control system is properly implemented
  • Generate all required project status reports for internal management and for customers
  • Provide support to the project team in budget and forecast management during execution to accurate reflect project status
  • Assist in developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing and training with various types of welding processes and pieces of equipment.
  • Assist with the Aecon Nuclear welding school activities and classes (theoretical and hands on)
  • Tracking the day-to-day operations within the COE welding facility with respect to deliverable obligations
  • Manage resource loading of COE welding equipment and personnel
Required Knowledge and Experience

\xe2\xa6\x81 College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience, specifically mechanical, materials, mechatronics, welding & robotics and other such technical programs with an emphasis on welding.
\xe2\xa6\x81 Minimum 2 years of industry welding, manufacturing, or materials science experience
\xe2\xa6\x81 Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
\xe2\xa6\x81 Ability to maintain active schedule tracking and resource management initiatives
\xe2\xa6\x81 Applied knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls principles
\xe2\xa6\x81 Applied knowledge of the "Earned Value" principles
\xe2\xa6\x81 Applied knowledge of cost engineering / cost control
\xe2\xa6\x81 Experience with Hard Dollar/InEight and SAP ERP systems
\xe2\xa6\x81 Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment
\xe2\xa6\x81 Hands on experience with manufacturing tools and welding
\xe2\xa6\x81 Familiar with welding principles is considered an asset (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)
\xe2\xa6\x81 Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is considered an asset
\xe2\xa6\x81 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
\xe2\xa6\x81 Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
\xe2\xa6\x81 Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
