General




The Coordinator of Children, Youth and Family Ministries plays a leading role in providing guidance, support, empowerment and education to children, youth and families in support of the parish mission of becoming a community of missionary disciples.


The successful candidate for this position must have a passion for working with children, youth and their families, helping them to grow deeper in their faith and discipleship. This position is results driven, not program driven. Stella Maris is a parish that strives to welcome all people, and realizes that children, youth and family ministries can often be the first touchstone for people encountering or reencountering the Catholic faith. The successful candidate must be competent at building welcoming and hospitable environments for families from all walks of life, without assuming that they are rooted in, or necessarily have a strong emphasis on, their faith already.


This position will rely on coordinating and supporting volunteers, from the parish, who in turn lead and support the various activities. As such, this position is for a leader of volunteer leaders, not simply a doer of tasks.


The Coordinator of Children, Youth and Family Ministries is a member of the pastoral team and is supported by the Parish Clergy.


Experience / Skills




The Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries should be a Roman Catholic active in the Church's liturgical and sacramental life with previous experience leading children or youth ministries. The most important part of the role is having a deep sense of Christian discipleship and having the heart and initiative to spread the Gospel in a loving, compassionate and compelling manner through the implementation of vision, strategy, and effective tools.


The successful candidate should be able to relate well with children, youth and parents, and have excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to delegate. In addition, this person should understand the structure of the Church and her teachings, using imagination, initiative, creativity, and prayerfulness in delivering creative, inspiring, relevant programming content.


Essential skills include: an ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and hospitality; strong organizational and planning skills, and ability to prioritize; and to be a self-starter and team player, welcoming feedback and direction.


Work Environment




The Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries is a part-time (20 hours/week) position with flexible work hours. Much of the planning and coordination can be done off-site if desired, but office space will be provided at the Stella Maris parish office. The candidate must be comfortable with praying in a work setting.


Responsibilities




Develop and coordinate a Sunday morning quasi-liturgical activity for children. Develop and coordinate a family-based catechetical ministry. Oversee and execute a First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Family Catechetical process. Coordinate a process for Confirmation Coordinate a ministry to Youth Establish a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children

,youth and families interested in participating and can lovingly spread the gospel through dynamic programming. Emphasis will be placed on providing programs and content that focus on evangelization and meeting families where they are in their faith journey, in a non-judgemental, welcoming, and compassionate manner. Emphasis will be placed on the important dimension that this position is for a leader of volunteer leaders, not a doer of tasks. This means identifying and equipping volunteers as a key component of the position. Be an example of dynamic, inspirational faith for the children and their families. Connect, build, and nurture relationships with families from a broad range of lifestyles, socio-economic circumstances, and faith experiences. Works with the Responsible Ministry Coordinator to ensure that Archdiocesan screening policies are followed, and all volunteers meet the Responsible Ministry requirements. Preparation of reports for Pastor and Parish Leadership Team as needed.

The successful candidate for this position must meet the Archdiocesan Responsible Ministry protocols including:


a clear criminal record check and a vulnerable sector check.

Contract:

Maternity Leave replacement - approximately 12 months


Compensation:




This is a part-time position, 20 hours/week at $20 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.


Group Insurance

benefits, including health and dental, will be available after the first three months.


A laptop computer will be provided as well as the cost of a basic cell phone plan.
