The incumbent will collaborate with the Senior Manager, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for Manitoba (MB). This position acts as the primary community liaison for DRR and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) projects, project monitoring and reporting, and DRR/CCA volunteer development and coordinator. This position will liaise, monitor, and assist community partners and act as a community liaison between the Canadian Red Cross DRR/CCA team and communities supported through DRR/CCA programming. The position contributes towards implementing MB DRR/CCA initiatives following approved plans and strategies, utilizing a community-led development / resilience approach, reflecting our Guiding Principles and commitments with the CRC Indigenous Peoples Framework, and will act as coordinator for a developing DRR/CCA volunteer program.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the development, planning, and roll-out of MB DRR/CCA program activities, including identification of supportive tools and materials, as well as oversite and coordination of volunteer engagement and program delivery.
  • Liaise with Indigenous/Non-Indigenous governance structures, community organizations/members, and other agencies and coordinates meetings.
  • Promote personal preparedness education within communities including workshops, learning sessions, and communication events.
  • Support internal and external monitoring and reporting obligations including file management.
  • Perform initial reviews of partner reports and develop and write project report review, decision papers, and continuing correspondence with communities.
  • Support and align with CRC organizational policies and processes and contribute to the continuous improvement of standard processes and procedures.
  • Develop strong and effective trust-based and facilitate community relationships that recognize, respect, and align with commitments to the CRC\xe2\x80\x99s Indigenous Peoples Framework, UNDRIP, and the TRC\xe2\x80\x99s Calls to Action.
  • Assist with the planning, recruitment, training, processing, and mentoring of contractors and/or volunteers who support DRR activities.
  • Develop, lead and provide coaching and performance management activities as applicable including onboarding and orientation activities for DRR volunteers.
What we are looking for:
  • An understanding and skillset gained from one of the following:
  • Minimum 3 years of related work or community experience
  • A related university/college degree
  • Fluency in English is essential, Indigenous language is considered an asset.
  • Experience in working with a diverse and community experience population is required.
  • A good understanding of the volunteer engagement cycle. Understanding of the Red Cross and the role of community-based organizations in risk reduction, disaster response and long-term recovery, will be an asset.
  • A demonstrated experience in developing positive external relationships and working in collaboration with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and/or agencies to achieve shared goals is essential.
  • Strong understanding and proven experience in developing and retaining diverse volunteer teams.
  • A sound understanding of Indigenous realties, experiences, successes, challenges, and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, beliefs and protocols of the region is required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including an ability to work and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and to collaborate with colleagues remotely
  • Demonstrated experience in writing reports that are easily understood and include clear recommendations for action is critical.
Working conditions:
  • This position will be required to work in a hybrid combination which will include at home/ remote and in-office.
  • Travel to areas of Manitoba is expected in all seasons.
  • Some work is performed in an environment that may be affected to varying degrees by disasters or emergencies.
  • There may be a requirement to work non-traditional hours, overtime, be on call, carry a pager and respond to emergency/disaster related requests, sometimes for extended periods of time.
