The incumbent, in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Risk Reduction and Resilience (Alberta and Northwest Territories) and working in partnership with communities, contributes towards implementing Risk Reduction and Resiliency (RRR)/Creating Safe Environments (CSE) initiatives following approved plans, utilizing a community-led development/resilience approach. The coordinator has shared direct responsibilities for program monitoring within the assigned geographic area.

In this role, you will:

  • Following the communities\xe2\x80\x99 invitation and their leadership, assists in the development of relationships and works in partnership with local like-minded organizations and the communities themselves to identify and meet their needs in the respective area.
  • Contributes to community partnerships to support Red Cross activities related to resilience building with a focus on RRR, which recognize, respect, and respond to the full diversity of the communities within Alberta.
  • To work alongside Indigenous communities to support stronger, safer, more resilient communities.
  • Hosts community network meetings as appropriate, generating opportunities that will enable participating communities to foster risk reduction through networking, shared resources, and enhanced community plans, including emergency response, community health and wellness, prevention and safety, and other Red Cross programming as required.
  • Contributes towards developing, piloting, and rolling Red Cross RRR programming, preparedness materials and activities and provides feedback to National RRR teams for development/enhancement.
  • Supports internal and external monitoring and reporting obligations, including file management concerning community-based programming and the compilation and analyses of program statistics and results.
  • Supports budget planning, annual operational planning, and quarterly business reporting for RRR activities in Alberta.
What we are looking for:
  • Completion of post-secondary studies in Indigenous Studies, Community Studies, Emergency Management, and Social Work/Human Services (or related fields).
  • At least 3 to 5 years of job-related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential. Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Proven program design, management, and delivery experience in complex environments.
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and a satisfactory driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract is mandatory.
  • Facilitation skills for a broad range of audiences using interactive techniques building on youth and adult learning.
  • Experience and understanding of working in more rural and remote communities.
  • Demonstrated experience working and collaborating with Indigenous communities and/or agencies to achieve shared goals is an asset.
Working conditions:
  • Work will be performed in a home office and an in-person community engagement environment.
  • Work-related travel is a job requirement, including travel into remote communities during all seasons.
  • You may be required to work non-traditional hours.
