About this Opportunity

  • The base budget for this position is 0.5 FTE with additional temporary top up of 0.5 FTE for 23-24 fiscal year.
  • Although hybrid arrangement may be available, there is a requirement this position be on campus throughout the year for the coordination of multiple onsite events as per the job description.

Recruitment range: $59,897- $66,034 starting salary determined by the PEA

Performance range: starting salary to max of $77,880 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

The University of Victoria School of Nursing is a leader in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research in partnership with different educational, community and practice organizations. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) to prepare nurses to work with individuals, families, and communities, guided by health promotion principles. The BSN program is delivered through a collaborative partnership with colleges in British Columbia (Camosun College, College of the Rockies, and Selkirk College) and the Northwest Territories (Aurora College). The School of Nursing also offers two graduate degrees: a PhD in Nursing and the Master of Nursing Degree with four options: (Advanced Practice Leadership, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Double Degree in Nursing and Health Informatics). Graduates of the Nurse Practitioner option will be eligible to write the examinations leading to licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (Family) in British Columbia.

The School is situated in the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD), a multi-professional faculty with a commitment to the student experience of dynamic learning in extraordinarily rich practice and community setting for vital impact on health and social development.

The Coordinator, Clinical Trainer plays a key role in assisting the faculty with planning, organizing, and delivering a range of on-site and virtual clinical learning and student assessment activities, including the Standardized Patient Program, in the Nurse Practitioner (NP) program. The position requires excellent organizational skills and a high level of responsibility and independence, along with knowledge of both clinical and theatrical fields. The position works in conjunction with the NP Program Assistant on administrative details.

*On-site clinical learning activities may take place outside regular work week hours and on weekends as required. The work week will be adjusted accordingly for these days. Some of these activities are scheduled at off-campus clinical locations. Transportation will be arranged or reimbursed when activities are off campus.

Job Requirements

This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor\'s degree in an applicable field such as healthcare, theatre, or fine arts, and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Advanced organizational skills, including the ability to organize groups and provide direction to others.
  • Demonstrated ability in facilitating and leading group processes including the ability to teach others how to effectively role play (i.e., how to deliver a script and how to consistently portray a character).
  • Theatre training and knowledge of acting techniques.
  • Knowledge of or experience working in a healthcare environment, medical terminology, and of the community and its available resources is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity, empathy, discretion, and good judgment and to relate to and work with people at all levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work in a fast-paced environment, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard office technology and their application, such as MS Office and calendar applications, and video conferencing.
  • Knowledge of best practice related to clinical practice education, simulation, and the use of standardized patients is an asset. This includes the best practices related to the development, operations and evaluation of these activities specific to nursing (

  • Experience teaching, providing training or mentoring, working in simulation scenarios, and presenting at workshops, is an asset.
