Detailed Overview:

The Coordinator, Clinical and Distribution Pharmacy Services is responsible for leading and coordinating the pharmacy services for the designated BC Corrections sites; collaborates with the Manager, Pharmacy Services to promote a progressive pharmacy service by developing, leading, implementing, reviewing and monitoring programs and services at the site such as parenteral services, ward stock, drug utilization, pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.



Supervises and provides professional practice leadership to pharmacists and other designated staff through clinical guidance, support and advice; coordinates staff work assignments, evaluates employee performance, determines training needs and recommends related staff training/orientation.



Acts as a clinical resource for and consults with healthcare professionals to provides direction related to pharmacy involvement in clinical programs/services; provides written contributions to pharmacy operations policies and procedures, drug information bulletins, departmental newsletters and manuals; performs clinical pharmacist duties, as required.


Responsibilities:
Coordinates the clinical pharmacy and distribution services by developing, implementing and monitoring professional practice standards for the designated sites and/or portfolio; works collaboratively with the Manager, Pharmacy Services to promote progressive pharmacy operations by developing, implementing and evaluating programs/services within the site including parenteral services, pharmaceutical care, drug therapy and monitoring, ward stock, drug utilization, staff education and continuing pharmacy education.

Develops, monitors, reviews and implements procedures related to pharmacy operations; collaborates with the Manager, Pharmacy Services to ensure accreditation services, professional practice standards and regulatory requirements are met; identifies and troubleshoots inconsistencies and initiates corrective action, where required; participates in on-going team planning, development, evaluation and quality improvement activities.

Supervises and provides clinical and professional practice leadership to pharmacists and other staff by providing clinical guidance, support and technical advice; identifies and determines staff training needs and develops related training /orientation; conducts performance evaluations of staff and reviews individual practice concerns with the employee and Manager; recommends appropriate disciplinary action up, as required.

Schedules the activities of department staff such as work assignments/schedules to ensure appropriate staff coverage including the on-call schedule; identifies and provides recommendations regarding staff department needs; oversees the supervision of student pharmacists, pharmacy residents and students at the designated site.

Acts as pharmacy resource for healthcare professionals and provides consultation and direction in the area of expertise; identifies, monitors and prioritizes pharmacy practice issues and staff education needs; develops, implements and monitors educational programs for pharmacists and other designated staff.

Develops staff orientation programs, promotes education and research initiatives, organizes in-services and facilitates an environment which fosters quality patient focussed care, teamwork and effective decision-making.

Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of practice-based reference manuals and clinical policies and procedures consistent with Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services and professional practice standards; recommends changes to pharmacy practice by monitoring practice trends and identifying patient care needs, including current evidence-based research.

Completes workload measurements, various statistics and other reports, as required; develops and maintains statistical data related to departmental activity levels, attendance, leaves of absences and performance appraisals.

Collaborates with the Manager, Pharmacy Services in the recruitment and selection of staff; applies provisions of the applicable collective agreement including the administration of the attendance awareness program and progressive discipline, as required.

Maintains quality drug distribution services for the department including the dispensary parenteral services, ward stock and narcotic areas; reviews and approves changes according to usage patterns and medication safety requirements; communicates to staff, as needed.

Provides written contributions to pharmacy information bulletins, departmental newsletters and manuals; compiles written information to ensure the facility receives the most current and accurate information regarding pharmaceuticals and their use.

Represents Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services on various internal and external committees and teams to establish and maintain relationships with related departments, agendas and/or organizations.

Performs clinical pharmacist duties, as required.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience



Current registration as a Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.



Certificate of completion of an accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program, supplemented by five (5) years' recent, related hospital pharmacy experience, including one (1) year supervisory/leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities



Broad knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care. Comprehensive knowledge of Pharmacy Operations (drug distribution processes and clinical pharmacy services) in a hospital or healthcare related setting. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other health practitioners, as well as patients, family members and the public. Ability to manage and or guide others in resolution or conflict issues. Ability to effectively lead, supervise and coordinate project teams, pharmacists, technicians, assistants and students. Ability to coach, mentor, teach, demonstrate techniques and facilitate learning within a multidisciplinary setting. Ability to plan, implement, organize, problem-solve, and manage projects. Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications. * Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
