Co-op Product Designer - Thermal

. This position reports to the Thermal Engineering Manager and will work in Vancouver, B.C.


Please note that this position is open to current students enrolled in a Canadian accredited university and co-op program.

Dometic Marine's headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.



As

Co-op Product Designer - Thermal

on the Vancouver team, you will be involved in a wide variety of tasks supporting administrative, engineering, and technical staff throughout the facility, with a focus on implementing production line improvements.


General Responsibilities




Perform time studies and identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes. Identify efficiency and reliability improvements and present them to department stakeholders Research new manufacturing methods and develop recommendations for improvements. Design and/or improve work holding fixtures and custom equipment for machining processes and in-process inspection. Perform root cause investigations for reducing production scrap. Update and improve factory layouts, including planning and implementation of CNC machine relocation or new installation projects. Assist diagnosis of equipment failures and subsequent repair. Create work standard documents for production procedures. Assist in programming a factory-wide SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) production management system. Represent Dometic while interacting with suppliers and subcontractors to have custom components manufactured.

Lots of hands-on opportunities: build prototypes or equipment; test products and components; analyze product performance; disassemble, inspect, and analyze tested components; design and optimize assembly processes and equipment; analyze machining data and develop mechanical and software tools to optimize production. Wide variety of tasks - usually 2-3 projects on the go at a time. Great supervision and mentorship but also get to work independently. Supportive engineering and technical staff throughout the facility. Great comradery among the co-op students' cohorts, as well as, within the engineers. Often opportunities to do some of the following: design components or equipment with CREO; use high precision measurement equipment; program PLCs; analyze product performance using Labview/NI-DAQ control systems or our data acquisition equipment. Experience in mechanical/electrical/software blend for both product design, and manufacturing & machining equipment designing along with its processes. Exposure to both worlds of product development and manufacturing processes since we do it all in one facility!

Skills & Requirements




Must be enrolled in an Engineering program at an accredited university Solid problem solving and decision-making abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks Experience with 3D CAD modeling software: Creo (Pro/E) preferred, Solidworks, CATIA, Inventor or equivalents also valued. Proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint. Experience writing code, Python preferred, other programming languages also valued. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Hands-on skills and mechanical aptitude

Salary range: $22 - $26 CAD per hour
