The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team in Windsor/Tecumseh, Ontario. The successful candidate will join our growing Contaminated Lands and Waste Management team serving Southwestern Ontario.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field work related to groundwater and surface water monitoring, wastewater and gas monitoring, soil sampling, including field observations for municipal and private facilities. Additionally, the successful candidate will develop comprehensive spreadsheets and figures as part of data interpretation for inclusion in comprehensive reports.

A day in the life:
  • Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP clients, employees and the public
  • Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, near loss incidents and loss incidents
  • Maintain excellent field notes on the collection and handling of water and soil samples while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Carry out fieldwork as per site specific workplans which could include groundwater monitoring, surface water monitoring, soil sampling, test pit excavations, drilling investigations, surveying
  • Carry out office assignments under the direction of senior staff including data compilation and analysis. Assist with report documentation.
  • Supervise subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole / groundwater well installation and test pit excavations.
  • Prepare and coordinate project documentation, subcontractors and equipment for field programs
  • Support hydrogeological monitoring and assessment programs as well as provide support to other disciplines within the organization, as needed.
  • Complete equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Perform and record work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
What you\'ll bring to WSP ...
  • University or equivalent education or experience in environmental/geological/civil engineering, geoscience, or a related discipline
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work individually or in a team environment
  • Awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes
  • Previous experience with groundwater and soil sampling is an asset
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in the use, calibration and maintenance of field monitoring equipment such as water quality meters, gas meters, sampling pumps, etc.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
  • You enjoy fieldwork and like to work autonomously \xe2\x80\x93 think the opposite of your standard 9-5 desk job!
