Scope



The City of Surrey's Parks, Recreation and Culture department is currently recruiting for auxiliary Recreation Instructors to lead a diverse offering of adult cooking programs. We are looking for candidates who are able to teach a variety of cooking and baking styles, including Indian and Plant-Based Bowls, and potentially others such as Italian, Mexican, Thai, and Desserts.

Responsibilities



Provide a safe and fun environment for all.

Create lesson plans and instruct participants with a wide range of skill levels.

Prepare program outlines, lesson plans and materials for participants as required.

Provide program instruction/leadership at the appropriate skill level of participants. Start and end program on time.

Responsible for following nutrition guidelines and a commitment to using healthy choices options.

Be energetic, creative and a positive role model for all participants.

Be flexible and able to quickly adapt to new environments and situations.

Be highly organized.

Self-motivated and can take initiative with little supervision.



Qualifications

Successful candidates will have:

Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED certification.

Current Food Safe Level 1 certification.

Experience working with people of all ages.

Excellent leadership, organizational, and customer service skills.

Creative and energetic teaching style where the participants are engaged in the activities.

High-Five Certification is an asset.

1 years' experience as an instructor is also considered an asset.

Practical cooking techniques, familiarity and expertise with kitchen equipment, experienced with specific types of cuisine.

Conditions of Employment



This position requires completion of a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
