Hospital Cook / Cold Prep Cook
to join our kitchen team.
Position Summary
The
Cook - Garde Manger & Plated Service
prepares and presents a variety of
cold and light hot menu items
for patients, staff, and guests. This includes sandwiches, salads, salad toppings, breakfast dishes, and baked goods. The ideal candidate has strong culinary skills, a passion for food presentation, and an understanding of
nutrition and food safety in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and plate sandwiches, composed salads, dressings, cold appetizers, and breakfast items according to hospital dietary standards.
Perform
Garde manger and cold prep cook
duties.
Assist with baking pastries, muffins, cookies, and other baked goods, as needed.
Support
Entremetier tasks
such as preparing vegetables, starches, and accompaniments.
Ensure meals are plated and labeled accurately with attention to presentation, portion control, and dietary modifications.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food prep areas, following
HACCP and Public Health Ontario
food safety standards.
Rotate inventory using
FIFO
methods and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
Provide courteous service and communicate professionally with patients, staff, and visitors.
Collaborate with chefs and kitchen staff to ensure efficient, high-quality meal service.
Qualifications
Valid
Food Handler Certification (Ontario)
(required)
WHMIS certification
and knowledge of MSDS sheets (required)
Culinary diploma or equivalent
cook or kitchen experience
(preferred)
Understanding of
nutrition, therapeutic diets, and food safety regulations
in a healthcare or institutional environment
Strong teamwork, multitasking, and communication skills
Physical Requirements
Able to stand and walk for long periods and lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs)
Comfortable working in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments
Manual dexterity and attention to detail for safe and efficient food preparation
