Job Overview
SVI is seeking a talented and dedicated part-time Cook to join our culinary team for the school year. Reporting to the Chef, you will play an important role in ensuring that our kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently, delivering high quality dishes to our student residents and guests in a welcome environment.
Responsibilities
Prepare and serve meals (i.e. breakfast) according to recipes and standards set by the meal plan and Chef.
Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner and meets standards of quality, quantity, taste and presentation.
Prepare setting/dining room for meals.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, wiping work surfaces and cleaning equipment.
Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal preparation and service.
Be aware of food quality, rotation, storage, utilization, stock levels, and product consistency.
Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to Chef in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum 3 years' cooking experience in a food service or restaurant environment
Food Handler Certificate
Standard First Aid certificate
Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Strong interpersonal skills
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and holidays, as needed
A passion for cooking and commitment to delivering high quality meals
Fluency in English, knowledge of Ukrainian an asset
Job type: part-time, temporary, 25 hrs. per week, Mon-Fri 6:30-11:30am, Sept-Apr
