We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cook to join our team at Family Place's Early Years Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of nutritious and appealing dishes for the children in our Centre. Your expertise in food handling, preparation, and service will be a key contribution to the success of our program. You will be required to ensure the kitchen environment meets and exceeds all licensing standards with respect to organization, cleanliness, and sanitization.
Shift:
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM daily, Monday to Friday
Location:
Family Place, 75 Central Street, Summerside, PE.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the kitchen runs smoothly and effectively.
Prepare, cook, and handle foods according to a rotating menu, recipes, and guidelines.
Ensure that all food is prepared and presented in a timely manner.
Make adjustments to recipes to accommodate specific dietary restrictions and health concerns.
Set up the work station for daily meal preparation.
Monitor food quality and taste for consistency.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in the kitchen area, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations and local safety standards.
Keep track of kitchen inventory, and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Work as a team player.
Be professional, dependable, punctual, and reliable.
Skills and Qualifications:
A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent is required. Culinary arts training is a strong asset.
Three to five years of cooking experience, preferably in a childcare center, seniors' home, restaurant, or other food service environment.
Strong knowledge of food handling procedures, preparation, and various cooking techniques.
Must be detail-oriented, creative, and a critical thinker with the ability to modify recipes to meet children's needs.
Experience using different cooking tools, equipment, and utensils.
Basic knowledge of mathematics for making correct measurements of ingredients.
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Certificates and Requirements:
Food Safety Course:
Must possess an approved food handler certificate or be willing to obtain one.
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check:
A current and clear check is mandatory. The employer will provide the necessary letter to obtain this document.
First Aid & CPR:
Certification is required, or a willingness to obtain it.
References:
Three professional references are required.
