Job Description

Roots of Learning Childcare is seeking a cook who will be responsible for the food program at our 25 space centre on Preston Ave. The position will be responsible for the preparation of well-balanced and nutritious children's meals for a.m. snack, lunch and p.m. snack. The cook will provide children with fresh seasonal food by following a rotating 6 week menu with corresponding recipes including weekly online shopping for food. The cook will ensure the dietary and cultural requirements of children that attend the centre are met. The position requires an energetic, reliable cook who has a positive attitude, can multitask, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintain positive interactions with staff, children and families

Follow all policies as designated by Roots of Learning and licensing standards

Prepare home-style, nutritional meals within the boundaries of the centre's budget, as well as Canada Food Guide recommendations

Ability to use the computer for food order

Follow the menus that have been developed and consult with the centre director of any deviation from the posted menu and repost any changes

Maintain a high level of cleanliness in accordance with the standards set by Food Safe Guidelines

Required to clean and sanitize kitchen and kitchen equipment

Required:

Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search

Valid Food Safe Certification (willing to take if hired)

Hours of work:

8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Can accommodate some flexibility to be within school hours if necessary

ECE training or interest in taking classes can make eligible for ELCC wage top up

Experience: cooking for 1 years

Salary: From $15.00 per hour. Wage top up with Valid ECE credentials

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $15.50-$20.50 per hour
