Position Summary:
This position is for the delivery of a high quality daily meal program in a 47 unit supported living apartment complex.
All positions at Home First Winnipeg require respect for and knowledge in working with vulnerable people who face various barriers, such as struggles with addictions and mental health, and who may come from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The individual will have an understanding of trauma-informed care responses, possess strong skills in crisis intervention, and conflict resolution and be able to have sound problem solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
The Kitchen Helper will participate as part of the kitchen team, reporting daily to the Kitchen Coordinator and Executive Director.
Duties & Responsibilities:
? Prep and cook meals following a monthly meal plan.
? Ensure that recipes are followed properly during food preparation and cooking time.
? Assist in monthly inventory recording.
? Operate commercial cooking equipment such as stoves, cookers, ovens and fryers.
? Maintain order of the kitchen and dining area by ensuring cleanliness of equipment, tables, counters and work areas.
? Clean and close kitchen at end of service
? Take out garbage, clean bathrooms, vacuum halls and other shared tasks.
? Other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Coordinator.
Qualifications:
? Valid Manitoba Food Handler's certificate (can be obtained later)
? Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, clear Vulnerable Persons Registry Check, and clear Adult Abuse Registry Check.
? Experience in a commercial kitchen
? Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking?abilities
? Ability to work productively within a team setting and also independently
? Ability to be proactive in challenging situations
