Silverstone Care Centre is seeking an experienced
Cook III
to lead our kitchen team in delivering high-quality meals for our residents. This role is ideal for someone who loves cooking, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys mentoring others.
About the Role
Reporting to the
Support Services Manager
, the Cook III is responsible for planning, preparing, and supervising the delivery of under 200 meals per day. You will lead Cooks I & II and Food Service Workers while ensuring food quality, safety, and service excellence.
What You'll Do
Food Preparation & Quality
Plan menus and recipes with the Dietitian, considering therapeutic and nutritional needs.
Prepare and/or direct preparation of soups, entrees, sauces, vegetables, desserts, and therapeutic diets.
Test, adjust, and control food quality, taste, temperature, and presentation.
Ensure timely meal service and adherence to food safety standards.
Procurement & Inventory
Estimate food/supply needs and place orders.
Receive goods, resolve supplier discrepancies, and maintain inventory rotation systems.
Support cost-control and efficient purchasing.
Leadership & Team Supervision
Lead and mentor Cooks I & II and Food Service Workers.
Assign duties, schedule coverage, coordinate workflow, and support onboarding and evaluation processes.
Foster a positive, collaborative kitchen environment.
Administration & Compliance
Maintain HACCP procedures, food safety programs, and temperature logs.
Support budget planning, cost monitoring, and policy development.
Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, infection control standards, and facility policies.
Professional Development
Maintain current knowledge through ongoing education.
Mentor and support the professional growth of the kitchen team.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Graduated from a recognized 12-month cooking/food preparation program.
Minimum
2 years of recent supervisory experience
in institutional or healthcare food service.
Red Seal Certification (Cook)
or equivalent education/experience.
Food Safe Level II
required.
Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture modifications.
Competent in operating commercial kitchen equipment.
Able to organize, problem-solve, and work under pressure.
Physically able to perform standing, lifting, bending, and walking.
Meets provincial immunization and TB screening requirements.
