As part of the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) team, your work as a Cook directly supports children and youth with complex mental health and developmental challenges. You'll help maintain a welcoming environment for children, youth, families, and staff by ensuring their nutritional needs are met. Your tasks will include:
Preparing meals for residents including specialized diets
Preparing food for delivery to residential areas
Complete weekly inventory and receive weekly grocery, produce, bread and milk orders
Ensuring that residents and staff are provided with safe, nutritious quality meals
Maintaining clean and sanitary work areas
Participating in the continuous quality improvement program
Please note:
This an irregular on-call position and the hours of work ranges from 0 to 40 per week, based on operational needs. Hours of work will be between Monday to Friday during the days.
This position will require you to perform a variety of physically demanding, routine, manual tasks relating to the preparation and receiving of food items
This position will require you to drive a motorized cart

Mandatory requirements
You have a Cook's certificate issued by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development OR equivalent acceptable experience

Food Services Knowledge and Experience
You have training and experience in cooking and food services to prepare a variety of meals according to recipe and menu requirements
You have knowledge of diet accommodations such as for medical, religious, and/or lifestyle reasons
You understand safe food handling techniques and proper cleaning/sanitizing techniques
You can supervise meal production in the absence of the manager

Health and Safety Knowledge
You understand and apply health and safety standards like WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
You can maintain kitchen cleanliness as well as kitchen records and logs
You can follow organizational policies and procedures

Other Essential Skills
You have problem-solving skills to conduct inventory of food items, receive orders, and complete temperature checking
You are able to plan, prepare, and ensure special diets meet clients' dietary requirements
You can solve problems with kitchen equipment and food service issues
You communicate well and work effectively in a team environment or independently
You can follow and carry out specific written and verbal instructions
