Cook - Extendicare Vulcan

Candidates are invited to apply for the Part time/casual Cook position to work at our Extendicare Vulcan, a 46-bed long term care home, located in Vulcan, Alberta. Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, the Cook will be scheduled for 48 hours bi-weekly and will ensure the preparation and delivery of food to the residents within legislative requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To satisfy the nutritional needs of the residents by:

Following the therapeutic menu plan for diet and texture requirements

Preparing entrees for lunch and dinner and preparing items for nourishments according to standards set by Extendicare, Public Health and Canada's Food Guide

Preparing food items for distribution to dining areas while ensuring temperature and quality control

Provide assistance and guidance to others as required- directs dietary aides in basic food preparation/ service standards

To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen

Keep aware of kitchen sanitation at all times.

Ensure that food is of correct quality and standard upon delivery and in storage

Daily menu is posted as required

Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure staff are compliant with proper food safe procedures

Check twice daily and document all food holding, fridge, dishwasher and freezer temperatures.

Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements

Control cost by minimizing spoilage, waste and exercising portion control; participates in the budget process.

Ensure food is properly stored and wrapped, rotate stock as required.

Continually maintain and exceed all standards of service and resident satisfaction.

Preparation and service to special events as may be planned by the facility

QUALIFICATIONS

Cook Certificate Level 1 or 2 (Red Seal desirable); graduation from a recognized culinary program an asset.

Food Safe Level 1 certification or equivalent.

Experience in long term care setting and familiarity with therapeutic diets an asset,

Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills required

Knowledge of 0H&S practices, principles and legislation required

Customer service orientation with emphasis on achieving and maintaining customer satisfaction
