Nourish Cowichan society has been feeding students in the Cowichan Valley since 2017. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a strong understanding of Nourish values of diversity, and respect for all. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in food preparation and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality. This position is perfect for individuals who are driven by food equity and are eager to contribute towards our mission to provide an outstanding school food.

Duties



Prepare and cook delicious & nutritional meals appropriate for students from k-12 Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety regulations and guidelines. Work in accordance with WorkSafe BC, VIHA as well as fire & health department requirements. Assist in the planning and execution of daily meal preparation. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including proper food handling practices. Collaborate with Executive Chef to ensure timely weekly production. Help monitor inventory levels of kitchen supplies and ingredients, reporting any shortages as needed. Help train new volunteers on food preparation techniques and safety protocols. Participate in menu development by providing input on seasonal ingredients and dish ideas & perform other duties required for production.

Qualifications



Previous 4 years of experience in the food industry or restaurant environment is required. Food Safe level 1 & must pass a vulnerable screen criminal record check. Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling techniques. Strong skills in meal preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen equipment operation. Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. Demonstrate understanding of working in an environment with a variety of volunteers, students and vendors from diverse cultural & economic backgrounds. A passion for cooking and a desire to learn and grow within the culinary field.

Pay: $24.00-$27.00 per hour
