ABOUT BROADMEAD CARE Broadmead Care is a vibrant non-profit health care provider in Victoria, BC with a reputation for high quality, innovation and leading practices. We are funded by Island Health, Veterans Affairs Canada, BC Housing, and philanthropy to provide a range of services including residential complex care and adult day programs for Veterans and seniors, and residential complex care for adults with disabilities. Broadmead Care operates in a 24-hour, 7-day per week environment employing hundreds of employees at numerous distinct worksites. Occupations include registered and licenced practical nurses, registered care attendants, social workers, therapy staff, food service, housekeeping, laundry, administrative, management and other staff. PURPOSE OF POSITION Under supervision, to safely carry out a variety of general tasks related to food production and/or food service in accordance with established routines, within an assigned area of the department\xe2\x80\x99s operations. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES / DELIVERABLES Carries out food production tasks by: \xc2\xb7 following menus and recipes to prepare and cook meats, fish, poultry, vegetable and dessert dishes, as well as various diet items; \xc2\xb7 preparing food items required for catering, special events, and other special functions; \xc2\xb7 ensuring that meals are flavourful and aesthetically appealing, and are served at the correct temperatures and in the correct portions; \xc2\xb7 utilizing proper and safe food handling techniques in the preparation and storage of foods, in the rotation of stock, and in the refrigeration and freezing of perishable items; \xc2\xb7 utilizing food production/preparation equipment safely and reporting equipment hazards or problems to the manager; \xc2\xb7 ensuring that the work area is left in a clean, tidy and safe condition; \xc2\xb7 making recommendations for recipe and menu changes to the manager or dietitian; Supervises the Food Production Service workers assigned to the food production area, and assumes complete responsibility for food production and food service in the absence of the Hospitality Manager, by: \xc2\xb7 prioritizing daily work activities, and allocating work; \xc2\xb7 training staff assigned or appointed to Cooks\xe2\x80\x99 positions in food production techniques, systems, and procedures; \xc2\xb7 assisting in orienting staff to their job expectations and routines; \xc2\xb7 training staff in the safe and efficient handling of any new equipment, supplies or products that may be introduced; Carries out general administrative duties by: \xc2\xb7 completing reports of unusual incidents that occur during working hours; \xc2\xb7 as directed, ordering raw food items and disposable supplies; \xc2\xb7 receiving food orders and supply deliveries; checking for proper quantity, quality, and costs; documenting problems; and referring problems to the supervisor for resolution; \xc2\xb7 assisting with implementation of the quality assurance program by completing audits, as directed, and maintaining related records; \xc2\xb7 keeping the Hospitality Manager informed of any service or production problems that occur; Follows all relevant policies and procedures of Broadmead Care now and as they are developed; Carries out other related duties as required.
