The Controls Designer
is required to develop control system hardware and software. This will be achieved by applying education and experience to software development and drawing tools. The controls designer is also required to develop a project bill of materials and deliver material requisitions to the Business Unit Manager for approval and submission. Understanding of the control system, either mechanical, chemical, or informational (data collection, IT systems) is necessary for success.
Specifically, the Controls Designer must:
Design and develop control systems, including electrical system sizing, component selection, software development, and component commissioning.
Be able to use the following software and software suites:

Rockwell Studio5000
B&R Automation Studio
Siemens TIA Portal
Parker DSE and DSElite
Eplan
Autosketch
AutoCAD
Visual Studio
Understand various IEC61131 programming languages including ladder, structured text, and function block diagram.
Exhibit good knowledge of electrical and mechanical design.
Know how to produce basic 3D mechanical drawings.
Be proficient in the use of basic electrical tools and computerized equipment including:
screwdrivers
wire strippers
crimpers
soldering irons
electrical multimeters
oscilloscopes
Have the ability to learn new technologies as they arise.
Have knowledge of applicable industry standards including ISO and CSA.
Have knowledge & training to inspect and certify product to meet CSA and ISO standards.
The Controls Designer must ensure:
ISO, CSA, and IDS standards are followed at all times.
The quality of the product being produced meets or exceeds the customer's standard of excellence.
Tracking, monitoring, and reporting is completed for CSA, ISO and IDS standards for quality purposes.
Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety protocol is up to date.
Workplace Health and Safety is being followed at all times.
Participation in development and training opportunities, as provided by the employer, and be willing to take the initiative to develop their work skills to meet the company's future goals.

: Some overtime, weekend, and holiday hours may be required. This position requires a valid driver's license and a current passport. Some heavy lifting may be required. This position will require scheduled travel to perform commissioning activities and site visits.

Education:
Post-Secondary Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Diploma or Degree (other relevant technologies will be considered) with specific knowledge in the following areas:.
Understanding of control circuit design is critical.
Understanding of 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) is critical.
Understanding of software development (Ladder, Structured Text, C/C++) is critical.
Understanding of electrical motor control is critical.
Understanding of mechanical relations in a moving system (torque, inertia, kinetic energy) is desirable.
Understanding of web development (HTML, HTML5, Java, CSS) is desirable but not necessary.
Experience
: Relevant experience is an asset; however, we are willing to train well qualified recent graduates. Working experience with any of the following platforms will be considered an asset:
Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLC and motion systems.
PLC and motion systems.
B&R PLC and motion systems.
Parker SSD drive systems.

Certifications:
Valid Ontario driver's (G) license or equivalent.
Valid passport and the ability to travel between Canada and the U.S.A.
Wage:
$26-$50/hr based on a forty (40) hour work week. Remuneration based on experience, qualifications, and certifications.
Expected Development Time to Independence:
6 months.
Probationary Period:
3 months
Specific Training Provided by IDS:
ISO 9001:2015 process for design, build, and test
CSA Panel Shop assessment and certification.
Additional Training and Certifications:
