Job Description

Our client in the real estate industry sector is seeking a Controller for an 18-month maternity leave contract engagement. Reporting to the VP, Finance, you will be responsible for the following:

• Manage a team of three accountants

• Manage monthly corporate close process including review of journal entries, bank reconciliations for both USD and CAD accounts

• Manage tax reporting deadlines with external accounting firm and internal Tax Manager, including annual tax provisions / tax returns, F/X conversions, ACB schedules, corporate GST returns, WorkSafe BC, corporate tax instalment remittances

• Oversee payroll process, including managing annual T4 production and reconciliations, EHT and WBC filings

• Manage corporate treasury function, including summarizing and monitoring corporate cash positions, and executing monthly cash management strategy (capital calls from holding company) prepared by the Manager, FP& A

• Lead external audit process with external accounting firm

• Assist in corporate reforecasting and budgeting process

• Assist in preparing materials for Board meetings or for senior management

Requirements

To be considered for this contract engagement, you are a designated accountant (CPA or equivalent) with 5 to 7+ years of progressive accounting experience as well solid ASPE knowledge.

You also have the following skills and experience as follows:

• Month-end close and financial statement preparation experience as well as treasury experience

• Real estate accounting experience would be an asset and Yardi experience would be strongly preferred

• ASPE reporting experience

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and quantitative skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Collaborative personality

• Works really well with people and knows how to get things done.

• Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
