Reporting to the CFO and CEO, the Controller will manage B-32's month end, quarter end, and year end internal and external financial reporting and ensure compliance with IFRS, tax and regulatory requirements. The role requires upstream oil and gas accounting experience, hands-on management of the full-cycle accounting function, and the ability to operate effectively in a lean, fast-paced environment. The Controller will also participate in the budgeting process, oversee payroll, insurance, and share capital logistics, and contribute directly to board and shareholder reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Reporting
Manage B-32's full cycle accounting function, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
Prepare IFRS-compliant quarterly and annual financial statements.
Develop and implement monthly management reporting packages.
Oversee staff accountant in day-to-day accounting, reconciliations, and payroll review.
Tax & Compliance
Oversee preparation and filing of T2 corporate tax returns and related schedules.
Manage SR&ED claim process.
Ensure timely filing of royalty, carbon/TIER, AER and other government regulatory reports.
Operations & Controls
Lead budgeting and forecasting process.
Monitor and track AFEs
Oversee treasury and cash flow management.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial best practices.
Insurance, Benefits & Payroll
Manage corporate insurance renewals, including gathering underwriting information.
Oversee payroll and employee benefits administration.
Corporate Governance & Shareholder Support
Assist in preparing board packages and shareholder updates.
Oversee share capital logistics, including interaction with Odyssey Transfer and share transfers.
IT & Systems
Oversee accounting systems (Pandell) and maintain IT environment integrity
Essential Experience & Skills
Professional CPA designation.
Minimum 5-10 years of progressive accounting/financial management experience
Upstream oil and gas accounting experience
Proficiency with oil and gas financial software systems, preferable Pandell
Experience with corporate tax (T2), SR&ED, and regulatory reporting
Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
Ability to thrive in a small-company setting with broad responsibilities
