This critical leadership role is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of financial services, supporting the overall success of JIBC's academic and operational goals.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, the Controller provides direction and oversight for all financial and core accounting functions, including Acounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger. This position ensures compliance with statutory requirements, internal controls, and generally accepted accounting principles, while fostering continuous improvement and client-focused service delivery. The Controller also leads the preparation of internal and external financial reports, coordinates the annual external audit process, and ensures the financial systems and processes meet the evolving needs of the Institute.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with demonstrated expertise in managing finance operations within a complex, unionized environment. Experience in contract management, tax compliance (including GST, PST, Excise, and non-resident regulations), technical accounting, and enterprise financial systems will be essential. The role requires hands-on involvement and attention to detail, with a strong ability to interpret financial data and make informed recommendations to senior leadership.

This role plays an important part in supporting succession planning, team resilience, and the continuous development of finance staff.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a proactive approach to identifying risk and driving operational improvements. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned financial leader who values accountability, equity, and innovation, and who is committed to supporting JIBC's mission to build safer communities through excellence in education, training, and applied research.
