Job Description


Eastward Energy is seeking a well-rounded individual to join their team as a Controller (Manager). Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting & Controls, the Controller (Manager) is an integral team member of the finance group within EEI. The Controller will lead and manage the day-to-day accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will provide accurate and timely financial reporting to support financial decision making at Eastward Energy and its parent, Tri-Summit Utilities. Responsibilities will also include proactively completing research on new accounting policy requirements/implementations while ensuring current compliance. It will also provide support and further development of our internal control framework and corporate governance structure to support ongoing businesses and continued growth. The role will maintain a high-level of understanding of the operations of Eastward Energy and support the regulatory function and future growth of the organization into the low carbon energy market. The Controller liaises with various stakeholders including TriSummit Utilities\xe2\x80\x99 financial reporting team and tax consultant, senior management, and internal and external auditors. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage Eastward Energy\xe2\x80\x99s accounting functions, including managing a team of three.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Administrating and executing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting in accordance with financial standards.
  • Producing clear documentation that supports the financial statements, reporting and audit needs.
  • Establishing and monitoring internal control systems and ensuring financial transactions and reports are accurate and complete, in line with policy, and related accounting principles and practices.
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and assist in the completion of CSOx audits and other special projects as they arise.
  • Oversee the calculation and filing of all taxes including HST, federal and provincial income taxes and municipal property tax.
  • Leading and motivating a team, inspiring dedication, achievement, growth, and quality work.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A university degree in Business Administration or Commerce, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation, with a minimum of ten years of progressive accounting and financial management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multifaceted, complex, and evolving priorities and complex financial systems for planning, analysis, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Detailed understanding of monthly and annual financial statement preparation, including reporting results to management. Strong/advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • Ability to break down issues or processes into component parts to reach a solution.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies and standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, while still working collaboratively with other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on capacity.
