Job Summary:

NOVEM Canada is a dynamic, rapidly expanding provider of Cold Chain Storage, Processing, Packaging, and Supply Chain Services, purpose-built for the Agri-Food and Life-Sciences sectors. Our vertically integrated model combines processing and co-packing with 4PL warehousing, international distribution, and global export logistics.

With a strategically located cold chain facility and global partner networks, NOVEM is uniquely positioned to extend shelf life, protect product integrity, and unlock new markets for our clients across North America and beyond.

We are now seeking a strategic and driven Controller who thrives at the intersection of finance, sales, operations, and growth.

This is a critical leadership role for a hands-on, high-potential financial executive who is ready to help scale a dynamic business and evolve into broader leadership roles. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller will oversee the finance function end-to-end while acting as a key advisor in capital planning, operational strategy, and business model optimization.

You'll be instrumental in enhancing financial performance, enabling strategic decision-making, and building the systems and team required to support NOVEM's continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee end-to-end accounting processes, including accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations. Prepare timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS or GAAP standards. Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or operational improvements. Ensure strong internal controls, tax compliance, and audit readiness. Seek and evaluate financial proposals from banks, lenders, and other funding sources to support NOVEM's capital projects and operational needs. Lead the preparation and submission of grant applications to secure funding for innovation, sustainability, or expansion initiatives. Handle insurance processes, including policy renewals, claims management, and risk assessment, ensuring adequate coverage for NOVEM's operations. Develop and deliver compelling financial presentations to the Board of Directors, investors, and other stakeholders, highlighting performance metrics and strategic insights. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and internal controls, coordinating with external auditors as needed. Develop and maintain KPI dashboards that provide real-time visibility into business performance. Analyze profitability by customer, service line, and facility to guide resource allocation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CMA, CGA) required. Five to ten years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing, life sciences, processing, or Agrifood-related industry. Strong knowledge of end-to-end accounting processes and financial reporting under IFRS or GAAP. Experience preparing financial proposals, grant applications, or investor-related materials. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel skills. Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex financial data for diverse audiences. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with investor relations or fundraising in a growth-oriented company. Experience in the agrifood, pet food, or life science sectors. Knowledge of insurance and risk management practices in processing or manufacturing operations. Background in grant writing or securing government funding.

Benefits:

Competitive salary with performance-based incentives. Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. Support for continued professional development and CPA membership.
