Job Description


A quality home developer is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join the organization. The person will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and accounting functions across all departments of the company. The Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementing effective financial strategies. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to provide strategic financial guidance to support the company\'s goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of improvement.
  • Collaborate with management to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates on financial results to support decision-making processes.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards while identifying and mitigating financial risks.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and business growth opportunities, and to negotiate loans with financial institutions.
  • Provide recommendations for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and profitability improvement.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and develop strategies to optimize cash resources.
  • Implement cash flow forecasting models and ensure adequate liquidity to meet financial obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations, oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns, and coordinate with external tax advisors as necessary.
  • Liaise with external auditors, oversee the annual audit process, prepare the necessary documentation, and respond to audit inquiries to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Oversee financial systems and processes implementation, enhancement, and maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline financial operations for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Communicate financial results, trends, and projections effectively to internal stakeholders, including executives and department heads.
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making and strategic planning processes.
Requirements

Bachelor\'s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience as a Controller or similar role, preferably in a medium to large-sized organization in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience in implementing and managing internal controls.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel. MS Power-Bi experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
