Position Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial functions of our dynamic manufacturing business based in Cobourg, Ontario, with support responsibilities for multiple business locations. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, improving internal controls, ensuring cost accounting accuracy, and supporting strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of accounting experience in manufacturing, preferably hold a CPA designation, and demonstrate strong familiarity with ERP systems such as ECi JobBOSS. The position will work closely with the Finance Director at our Cobourg location and the CFO of CCG.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual) in accordance with US GAAP
Manage general ledger operations, journal entries, and bank/account reconciliations
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
Provide financial analysis and reports to support executive decision-making
Financial Operations
Mange Payroll administration utilizing 3rd party payroll administrator.
Provide oversite of Customer/Vendor setup and ongoing payment review/approvals
Manage GST/HST and US based Sales Tax process
Manage Treasury functions for multi-bank account portfolio and Credit Card processing
Cost Accounting & Inventory
Maintain accurate cost accounting records, including BOMs, labor, overhead, and materials
Oversee inventory valuation and support physical inventory audits
Analyze variances in manufacturing costs and recommend process improvements
Support operational and pricing strategies through detailed cost analysis
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the budgeting process and assist in rolling forecasts
Monitor actual results against budget and explain variances
Develop financial models and "what-if" scenarios to support planning initiatives
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare for audits and financial reviews
Maintain and improve financial policies, controls, and procedures
Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions as required
Cross-Location and ERP Support
Support finance functions across multiple CA/US business locations
Leverage ERP systems (ECi JobBOSS) to streamline operations and financial data integration
Provide training and oversight to local accounting staff or administrators as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting standards
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial planning, and cost analysis
Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to travel periodically between company sites
Preferred:
CPA or CPA-eligible
Experience with ECi JobBOSS ERP and Financial software
Experience supporting a multi-location or decentralized business
