The Control Panel Technician / Assembler is responsible for building, wiring, and testing industrial control panels according to electrical schematics, layout drawings, and company standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, hands-on electrical assembly skills, and the ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Panel Assembly & Wiring
Assemble electrical control panels, junction boxes, and enclosures following engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
Perform point-to-point wiring of components such as relays, PLCs, breakers, transformers, and terminal blocks.
Mount and label components accurately based on layout drawings and bill of materials.
Cut, strip, crimp, and route wiring in a neat and organized manner.
Technical & Quality Tasks
Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and panel layout drawings.
Verify component specifications and ensure panels meet design requirements.
Perform continuity checks, basic electrical testing, and troubleshooting of wiring issues.
Maintain documentation and ensure panels meet company and regulatory standards (CSA, UL, ESA, etc., if applicable).
Safety & Workflow
Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout guidelines, and proper tool usage.
Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with manufacturing safety practices.
Qualifications/Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or Industrial Electrician training is an asset.
1-3 years of experience in electrical assembly, panel building, or related manufacturing roles preferred.
Skills & Competencies
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Strong wiring, crimping, and mechanical assembly skills.
Familiarity with industrial electrical components (PLCs, relays, etc.).
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to lift moderate weights and perform hands-on work for extended periods.
Working Conditions
Manufacturing/assembly environment.
Use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
Standing, bending, and manual dexterity required.
