The LifeSkills Centre is looking for a Contract Support Worker to support individuals living with developmental disabilities and assist them in learning new skills. The ideal candidate is able to apply every-day life experiences into a creative learning experience that generates discussion, laughter, and positive energy.

This position will be supporting individuals 1-on-1 in their home or community who may come from various different backgrounds.

Clients may have high needs and present with behaviours such as aggression, yelling, hitting, running away, etc. SMG/CPI training and previous experience with high behavioural needs is a requirement for this position.

Support goals will vary based on the client and can range from assisting with skill development for daily living tasks to implementing behavioural strategies and/or protocols for individuals with high behavioural needs.

Responsibilities

Support individuals living with disabilities in their goal to learn new skills Support individuals in a 1-on-1 environment Support individuals who may have high needs, require support managing behaviours, individuals with anxiety, individuals who may display aggression, etc. Provide a positive and supportive environment where clients are encouraged to achieve their optimum potential and learn the skills necessary to be an active member of their home and community Proactively develop learning opportunities and build relationships with the clients we serve and the parents/guardians who put their trust in us Ability to be creative, problem solve, and adapt Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, families, and agencies Solve Parent/Guardian concerns in a professional and customer focused manner and communicate information with other members of the team to stay updated Adhere to safety/security policies and practices Be active and use "out-of-the-box thinking" Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Valid Standard CPR/First Aid Certificate CPI, SMG, or BMS training certificate Successful Criminal Reference Police check with Vulnerable Sector screening College diploma or University degree in relevant field (ie. DSW, social work, etc.) Vehicle is required for this role References
Working Hours: vary depending on client needs

Shifts available: Part-time to start, with the potential for full-time hours
