About Industry Training & Continuing Education (ITCE)
ITCE offers courses, online learning, evening classes, or hands-on certifications, in a variety of options to fit learners' busy schedules. Designed in collaboration with industry experts, the programs provides practical knowledge and real-world experience to help learners' succeed.
Purpose of Position:
The Contract Instructor to lead our Professional Racehorse Groom Program and serve as a Co-Instructor for our Professional Racetrack Exercise Rider Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive and engaging instruction to students pursuing careers in the horseracing industry. This role requires deep industry knowledge, practical experience, and the ability to inspire and educate aspiring professionals.
Key Job Functions:
Plan and prepare for instruction in alignment with overall program objectives
Delivery of instruction, addressing various learning styles and needs relative to course content (racehorse grooming, including daily care, feeding, health monitoring, and stable management).
Evaluate and report on student progress, including student instruction and safety concerns are a responsibility, as well as maintaining and reporting all testing and final grades to proper OC personnel for Racetrack programs.
Work with other College departments to facilitate and support learner success (for example, accommodations)
Create a learning environment that encourages student engagement and success
Be accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success
Monitor classroom supplies and tools inventory
Perform various tasks to support student success:
+ First point of contact for student concerns
+ Monitor student performance and behaviour
+ Submit appropriate reports and forms as required
+ Maintain confidentiality and security of student information Learn and implement technology and teaching tools to enhance the educational experience when appropriate
Perform other activities related to instructional assignment such as coordinating activities within a program or programs, and participating in College development initiatives
Collaborate with colleagues to scaffold skills within courses and programs to create an exceptional student experience
Responsibility for barn manger and horse care instruction, and animal welfare during the program.
Work with industry to get horses for programs, to be stabled at Century Mile.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies, Animal Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience in the horseracing industry will be considered.
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience as a racehorse groom and/or exercise rider.
Teaching or corporate training experience is an asset.
Experience with online delivery and platforms (i.e. Moodle, D2L, Blackboard)
Strong knowledge of racehorse care, grooming techniques, and exercise riding

Actively promote and reinforce practices that prioritize the well-being and security of all individuals at Olds College, show a proactive attitude towards safety measures, continuously striving to enhance safety protocols and procedures to ensure the highest standards of protection, collaborate with colleagues to instill a culture of shared responsibility and accountability when it comes to maintaining a safe and secure work setting
