Job Description


Roles include but are not limited to:

  • Helping clients with personal hygiene such as bathing, washing, dressing, grooming etc.
  • Assisting with basic day-to-day tasks such as grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, paying bills, etc.
  • Performing light housekeeping duties such as cleaning and tidying the client\xe2\x80\x99s room or house, changing sheets, and doing laundry
  • Helping clients with their medication and ensuring they take it as per instructions
  • Planning and preparing meals according to specific dietary requirements
  • Providing companionship and emotional support to clients by spending time with them
  • Escorting clients to appointments and social outings
  • Helping and supervising clients with performing prescribed exercises
  • Transferring and moving clients in a wheelchair or stretcher
  • Turning, lifting, and positioning clients that require mobility assistance
  • Assisting clients during mealtime
  • Assisting with the planning and implementation of leisure activities
  • Reporting and documenting client concerns, incidents, and progress notes
  • Administering first aid in emergency situations
  • Taking clients\xe2\x80\x99 temperature, blood pressure, and pulse

  • Core Competencies
The Continuing Care Assistant requires excellent assessment skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within their assigned areas, as well the ability to adapt and understand patients/residents needs, assisting them in meeting their fullest physical and emotional potential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as moving and mobilizing patients; varying workloads, exposure; dealing with stressful situations relating to agitated, confused, aggressive, or hostile behavior of patients/residents. The successful candidate will demonstrate regular attendance in current and previous employment. The ability to make critical decisions in a timely fashion is essential. The incumbent requires organizational skills and the ability to prioritize their own work.
