Position Summary

The Continual Improvement (CI) Specialist will oversee the company\'s Continual Improvement (CI) strategic plan and initiatives. CI Facilitator(s) will report to this position as well as any other full time employees dedicated to CI. The CI group facilitates or directs or leads projects and initiatives to provide teams with direction and training, resolve issues outside the team\'s control, and ensure that momentum of the projects/initiatives is maintained through completion. The CI Specialist reports to the executive level and will work with other parts of the organization to ensure that CI objectives are met. Recommendations will also be provided to the executive level on how to improve the effectiveness of the CI programs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation and progress of Continual Improvement (CI) programs in Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg, as defined in Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg\'s strategic lean plan/road map. Responsible for the monitoring and updates on the overall health of any CI programs or initiatives. Analyzes and provides recommendations for improving any of the associated processes.
  • Responsible for administration and performance levels of the CI Facilitator(s) or anyone allocated to the CI group. Acts as the head of this group.
  • Leads the strategic planning for CI programs and initiatives at Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg. Presents recommendations to the executive level for improvements to the CI programs at Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg.
  • Acts as the Chair to the various CI type meetings at all levels of the company. Leads the CI steering committee meetings.
  • Focal point at Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg for CI communication from other divisions and will be Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg\'s representative in the Corporate CI Council.
  • Performs training on CI tools and initiatives. Ensures that the CI group is trained for their functions. Develops training packages as required.
  • Participates and monitors the annual Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg lean assessment, complete with gap analysis and recommendations to close them.
Position Requirements
  • Technical degree or diploma (i.e. Manufacturing or Industrial Engineer or Engineering Technologist) required. P. Eng. designation preferred.
  • Six Sigma (minimum Green Belt) and Certificate in Lean (Black belt or equivalent).
  • Combination of 5 years in a continual improvement function and manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in CI strategy development and leadership.
  • Previous supervisor experience is an asset.
  • Good motivator and speaker.
  • Ability to create, lead and promote teamwork.
  • Passionate about continual improvement.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Experience in or knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methodology, Value Stream Mapping, Problem solving, Kaizen, Foreign Object Damage/Debris, Total Productive Management, Lean assessment, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
