We are looking for someone who is an experienced book publishing editor with impeccable project management skills and attention to detail. At least 2 years of recent experience producing text-driven and 4/c illustrated books is essential. You will be the team lead behind each project and responsible for keeping everyone involved, engaged, and on schedule. An ability to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects while working closely with clients and authors is required. Experience assisting in the creative vision behind a book is a plus. Qualified applicants must have familiarity and interest in Hinduism, including major concepts and history, be extremely detail-focused, and able to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects at once. Responsibilities and Duties:
Oversee every stage of publication for distribution client titles, from manuscript to ozalids.
Build out and track schedules, updating milestones as necessary. Manage internal list confirmations and change memos.
Meet with clients to review contract, cover/layout, timeline, print run, and/or format, etc, as needed.
Create new contracts based on boilerplate examples, negotiate as needed, and route contract amendments as needed.
Request printer bids for each project, often with variables, and route for internal approval. Request new bids as formats change.
Mange freelancers (copyeditors, designers, indexers, and proofreaders) and invoicing process.
Work within Mandala archive to retrieve assets.
Review designed layouts, ensuring alignment with the Chicago Manual of Style
Route all covers and interior layouts for internal and Client approval.
Collate layouts against previous passes pages for accuracy.
Compose Title Information and One sheets for each title, route to clients for approval, and keep TI/One Sheet details up to date
Coordinate with Operations and Production department to track schedules on initial print runs and reprints. Inform key stakeholders of changes.
Requirements:
Familiarity and interest in Hinduism, including major concepts and history.
Minimum 2 years project management experience in book publishing as a Production, Project, or Managing Editor.
Strong understanding of the Chicago Manual of Style.
Strong understanding of book formats and specifications.
Ability to work flexibly with sudden drop-in titles and shifting priorities.
Comfortable acting as the main point of contact with clients and authors, as well as working closely with internal design and production departments.
