Under the direction of the Metis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN S) Consultation Manager, the Lands & Consultation Coordinator will provide coordination to various projects within the province of Saskatchewan that have triggered Duty-to-Consult legislation and require consultation with the Metis people of the province. The Lands & Consultation Coordinator will work with industry development proponents, Metis rights-holders, various levels of government, other Ministries within MN S, and others to coordinate the MN S's approach to these projects to ensure that Metis voices are heard on development projects that may affect their rights and traditional practices.
The Consultation Coordinator will work to gather input on projects from community leadership and then implement that guidance with the Consultation Liaison by working with consultants, regulators, and proponents to hold engagement and consultation community gatherings. Community input will then be gathered, verified with community, and used in a variety of ways to support the consultation and accommodation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate between project proponents, stakeholders, rightsholders, Metis communities, and various governments
Develop and maintain a workplan for each project
Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate engagement sessions and working group meetings for various projects
Review notifications from government related to duty to consult, log, track, and escalate as needed to other MNS Ministries and departments
Act as the first point of contact with proponents in person, via email, and over the phone. Respond and direct questions and inquiries appropriately
Prepare and send a variety of correspondence
Manage, distribute, and coordinate all incoming and outgoing mail and courier documents
Carry out manual and electronic filings as well as scanning of documents and reports
Prepare travel arrangements and book meetings as required
Coordinate meetings including room bookings, room preparations, document printing, and catering requirements
Liaise with third party vendors
Work with MNS Legal department to coordinate meetings, prepare meeting documents
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Well-developed writing, public speaking, and presentation skills
Strong problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Well-developed coordination skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of Metis culture and the structure of the Metis NationSaskatchewan
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Indigenous Studies, environmental studies, and/or related field is preferred.
Training/certifications from a recognized institution in Administration, Land Management, Indigenous lands governance, or similar programs will be considered.
Must have a minimum of two years proven experience working in a similar role.
Additional requirements:
Must undergo a Criminal Record Check
Must be willing to travel within Saskatchewan
Valid Saskatchewan driver's license and access reliable transportation
