About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Healthy Communities (Central Zone), the Consultant, Public Policy and Social Action provides advanced knowledge, leadership, and coordination of the workforce development in the area of public policy, social action, and advocacy. The Consultant will demonstrate a solid understanding of how to action public policy development with municipal and other levels of government and will share this knowledge with others.
The position works closely with the Manager, Healthy Communities, and other Consultants both within the zone and NSH to strengthen the Healthy Communities workforce providing advice and direction for the planning and implementation of public policy work. The Consultant is a resource and support to front-line staff as they strengthen and build public health competencies related to public policy work. The Consultant has in-depth knowledge of the steps of public policy development and understands how to create and plan opportunities for strengthening practice among staff uses participatory processes.
The Consultant collaborates with system and external partners, identifies and monitors key indicators, and supports knowledge exchange across the health system and other sectors. The position monitors trends, gathers new evidence and continually builds their knowledge to improve approaches to public policy work.
