Job Description


Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is a leading global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social consulting services. We are currently seeking an outstanding Consultant Impact Assessment and Permitting to join our Canadian regulatory and permitting team. This position would ideally be based in one of our Canadian offices (e.g., Vancouver, Smithers, Whitehorse, Calgary, Saskatoon, Toronto), but would allow for flexibility and remote work from other locations. Applicants in other locations in Canada will also be considered.

The role requires experience in the infrastructure or natural resource development sector\xe2\x80\x94particularly in the renewable energy, transportation, oil and gas, or mining sectors\xe2\x80\x94combined with a demonstrated understanding of applicable provincial/territorial and federal regulatory and permitting requirements. The successful candidate will join ERM Canada\xe2\x80\x99s regulatory and permitting team and will be connected with ERM\xe2\x80\x99s global team of environmental and social experts.

This posting is designed for a resourceful, motivated person with experience and skills in environmental assessment and/or permitting, who enjoys problem-solving and leading teams within a challenging and fast-paced multi-stakeholder environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide advice and guidance on a variety of regulatory, permitting, environmental impact assessment tasks in support of clients\xe2\x80\x99 projects.
  • Assist project managers to execute scope/budget/schedule to meet client\xe2\x80\x99s expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Support engagement activities with communities and stakeholders as part of the project design and permitting process.
  • Support delivery activities such as permit application scoping, application information requirements, technical writing, data and regulatory research and review, collection and integration of input from ERM\xe2\x80\x99s subject matter experts, permit and environmental management plans, delegating work to GIS, data compilation and desk-top publishing assignments to support permit applications, and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Support business development activities, initiatives, and programs.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.
QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRABLE SKILLS:
  • Bachelor degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the resource development industry.
  • Understanding of environmental and social effects related to mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, transportation, and/or related developments.
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting, industry or government is an asset.
  • Expertise with Canadian federal, provincial and territorial regulations and guidelines (in particular, familiarity with environmental assessment and permitting processes in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Yukon, Northwest Territories and/or Nunavut) or similar legislation in other jurisdictions is an asset.
  • Understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements and compliance management as they relate to mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, and transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with project management approaches, field planning/coordination, progress reporting and budget oversight.
  • Experience with Indigenous groups, particularly in the context of regulatory processes.
  • Experience with community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to both work as part of a team and be a self-starter when required.
  • Excellent writing, communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and awareness or familiarity with project management tools.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.
  • English is required, and fluency in multiple languages (e.g. Indigenous languages, French) is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.

For the Consultant, Impact Assessment and Permitting position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $72,164 \xe2\x80\x93 $76,752 CAD. An employee\xe2\x80\x99s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
